I just got mine today. I ordered this Sunday and it arrived this morning. It was shipped from Austin, TX to Dallas, TX in 24 hrs!

Not bad!, I paid $718 with $56 tax. I learned that Dell is offering NO TAX Promo at their Mall Outlet Store, so I emailed Dell for tax refund of $56.

Let us see if Dell will deliver on the promise.

BTW, the box is HUGE!

Or maybe even the 17" 1920x1200 panel. Anyone have any idea how it might compare to some of the 10,000 projectors? With 3500 lumens it probably would be pretty badass.

But yeah please elaborate!
Having built a projector myself I have to comment on this. First off, you do not want to build one like Tom's did, the quality is definatly sub-par, the projector is generally noisy and hot, and the image quality is not even remotely resembling 'high definition'. Its a great place to start, but its not a quality solution. Secondly, you do not want a panel larger than 15", and laptop panels are not ideal due to both low pixel response rate and the fact that you have to buy an expensive converter card in order to enable a standard VGA or DVI input for them(they do not include the on board electronics that a regular LCD panel does). And finally, take the lumens your light source is rated at and divide by 10 to get your effective lumens compared to commercial models. That means a 3500 lumen source like the Tom's Hardware design is directly comparable to a 350 lumen commercial projector. Not so impressive, eh?

Now, that said, I do actually prefer a home built projector. The commercial models cost $200-300 to replace a bulb and those bulbs go out faster than people realize. Furthermore, you can't upgrade one simply by utilizing a new LCD panel. However you won't save much money and you'll need to put a lot of work into it and the end result will be closer to a sub-$1000 projector than a $3000+ one.

For more info I'd suggest browsing the forums at www.diyprojectorcompany.com as they have a lot of DIY'ers there. Their designs on the website are a good starting point, however even they need a LOT of work to make something reasonable.

Holy ******... I just happened to be checking Dell's site a couple hours ago and they had the 2407FPW for only $536 (no rebates) and the 2007FPW for only $116 (also no rebates). This was in the Home section!

This was definitely a price mistake. After putting them in my cart, it reports "Dell Home Customers: Save $343 off this Dell Inspiron E1405!" under both monitor models!

I put one of the 24" and two of the 20" in my cart and checked out. Total was $768 + $25 shipping + $66 tax.

Not even 5 minutes after I placed my order I checked the site again and the mistake was fixed. But my order was acknowledged and confirmed. I hope they ship!!

Maybe a bit off topic, but does anybody have any good icons to use for the media card reader drive icons?

I got a break on a lucky price mistake.. see my post a few messages up. Basically Dell's site was applying a $343 discount off those monitors' normal prices. A discount that was supposed to only apply to a certain inspiron notebook.

Nice find OP.

I don't think this LCD will fit on an overhead projector. You'll need a laptop screen.

Yeah its probably too big, that is a cool project though!

I need help regarding this LCD from whoever has been using it for sometime.
I just received this monitor and I can see that it says it supports 1920 X 1200 resolution.
However I am not able to set it to this resolution. I am not getting the 1920/1200 option to set through the display properties.

I am using it in a two monitor setup, where the primary is a 19" Tube monitor and this one is connected via DVI from the same video card.
I think I am uisng NVidia FX5600 256MB with VGA and DVI.

Should i call the Dell Service ?

No do not call Dell service or waste your time. It looks like your video card's. Go to Nvidia site download the latest driver and go from there. I'm afraid your video card that may be the culprit.

Actaully I did get the latest drivers from the NVidia site.
Also just checked that I am using the 128MB version of GeForce FX 5600, not the 256MB one.
But in any cae I am able to set 1920 X 1200 on my Compaq 19" CRT monitor which is my primary.
I tried switching the Dell Flat Panel as primary to see if that works, but it was a no go.

So what am i missing here?

Is the monitor displaying as a "Dell 2407 LCD " or "Dell 24 LCD" under the Settings>Display tab? (This tab is in the same place where you would slide the resolution bar left and right to change the resolution)

AFAIK, the FX5600 should be fine to display that resolution. Hell, I was even using an ancient Geforce 1 to power a 1680x1050 resolution not too long ago. Looked crisp/fine to me.

Anyways, if the tab shows as a "plug and play" monitor of "generic monitor" (or something to that degree) that may very well be your problem. I wouldn't know for sure, of course, since I don't own this LCD, but try checking into that. I know some monitors NEED to have drivers installed for the correct resolutions to be unlocked, while other monitors are spiffy with any/generic/windows drivers.

Whoa, I couldn't take hearing of the 2407WFP's going for $536 and started trying your little trick with current coupon codes... Most said invalid code, but one said that the coupon had instead already been maxed out when I applied to the monitor...
