AFAIK, the FX5600 should be fine to display that resolution. Hell, I was even using an ancient Geforce 1 to power a 1680x1050 resolution not too long ago. Looked crisp/fine to me.

Anyways, if the tab shows as a "plug and play" monitor of "generic monitor" (or something to that degree) that may very well be your problem. I wouldn't know for sure, of course, since I don't own this LCD, but try checking into that. I know some monitors NEED to have drivers installed for the correct resolutions to be unlocked, while other monitors are spiffy with any/generic/windows drivers.

Took you advice but still the same result.
My monitor indeed was getting displayed as generic plug and play in the setting display tab. So i updated the drivers using the ones that came in the CD with the monitor.
Now its displaying Dell 2407 LCD properly. But the amx resolution i can set is still 1600 x 1200.
I am now thinking that this monitor must be defective.

The only other thing that remians to be done is to connect this monitor in a single monitor setup and try using both the VGA and DVI interfaces to see if can get it to display 1920 x 1200.
Next step would be to swap the Graphics card and use the 256 MB version on GeForce 5600.

The next step would be to return it to costco.

nVidia cards of that vintage are notorious for problems with hi-res over DVI, but this is the first I've heard of it flat out refusing to list that res. Try another card, a Radeon if you have one.

Umm, that's the very first trouble-shooting step I would do. If you get a new monitor, it's always simpler to get it working as a single display before you go straight to double. I'll bet you the monitor works, there's just something in the dual display setup that's not quite right yet.

Well i see what you are saying. I would normally do that, but I thought in this age with Windows xp doing everything out of the box and everything being plug and play, the double display would work correctly straight away.

Also I just read somewhere about the older NVidia that sm8000 is talking about. It seems the problem may be related to the DVI input.

I hope I will have figured out this puzzle in the evening today. I also have a Radeon card just in case.

Anyone have an extra $45 off $400 coupon or $35 off $300? What was the trick to get it in the instant win game? Thanks.

It's not the DVI input (on the monitor), it's the TMDS chip that generates and transmits the DVI signal not being strong enough to generate a sufficient signal. It affected a wide range of GeForce cards from GF2 to GF6, not sure about GF7. A few cards avoided this problem by not using nVidia's TMDS chip, but a discrete one of their own.

So, if I don't have a preferred account, even I buy the coupon off E-Bay, I won't be able to use it?

Would someone sell me a Dell 25% coupon code for flat panels since I do not have a feabay account. Another additional 25% off on top of the already 15% off is too good to passup.

The 25% coupon is not stackable. I tried. It would not stack the 25% on top of the 15% sale price. It was just one or the other. I wish I knew how he got it down to $593 because that is a smoking deal.

DPA 25% off coupon (-219.75)
PHONE REP INITIATED DISCOUNT (-75.00)

to make things a little more clear for everyone, DPA coupon came with DPA bill in mail.

important restrictions of said coupon:
