I'm not sure, but I don't think a Samsung has ever been used in the BenQ FP241W. Has there been a service menu screenshot or any other evidence? (prad.de does make assumptions). The AUO panel will be better than the Samsung in the Dell 2407 by a noticeable amount. If you happen to get a Samsung panel (which like I just said is doubtful), it may have the same (perhaps without banding issues) image quality.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/11/07/Benq_FP241W/4.html

Both the colour ramp tests for greyscale and for colour delivered smooth grading and no colour imperfections, even at the furthest ends of the scale. In this respect, the Dell was definitely outclassed and this monitor established as a cut above the rest - it was at least on a par with the Samsung 215TW, if not better.

It wouldn't even be a question for me if one monitor had noticeably better image quality, but I put image quality above 'extras' (more USB, card reader) in a monitor. I can see how the lack of 1:1 would be an issue (for ATI users). You can use PowerStrip to get around that, if you ever happen to need it. Future graphics cards or driver/firmware updates may eliminate that problem.

i have a nvidia card so i can force the 1:1. i guess i should just go with the BenQ 80 some odd dollars more for a better quality monitor is worth it. when dealing with big numbers 80 isn't that much of a difference, at least to me.
HDMI might as well get never hurts to have extra inputs plus i want the monitor to last a very long time...

any last things i should think about? Neweggs return policy a issue?

Edit:
Dell 2407WFP went down in price to 680....why is this so hard to decide ><

also are any of these monitors wall mountable?

You might want to wait on the BenQ fp241wZ version with AMA Z tech to help eliminate ghosting.

Also the DELL has been reported to have input lag while the BenQ does not. And the DELL still suffers from banding issues even after 3 revisions.

I've been following this thread, as I have a similar decision. I currently have a Dell 2005FPW, which is fine... It's certainly not perfect, with its backlight bleed and stuck pixel, but I still was quite happy with it. A $120 price difference is pretty significant between the BenQ and the Dell, but then again if the IQ is considerably better on the BenQ it would be worth it.

I actually looked at an Acer A2434W yesterday

http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0240208

...and it wasn't bad, but I wasn't blown away by the IQ either. It's tough to imagine how it will end up looking on my ambient lit office when it's in a fluorescent lit retail store. It also doesn't have any USB ports on it, which I am using on my Dell, so I'd need to get a USB hub.

It's probably faster than the Dell. The FP241WZ will just raise the bar in terms of speed.

ok so w/e one last thing to know and i'll make a choice.

how does newegg react to returns of a bad monitor, ie banding, ghosting, etc...
is it easier to do returns with dell?

well thanks for all the input but i think I'm going to go with the Dell 2407WFP if anything I'll RMA it or just get a refund and get the BenQ. If dell didn't lower the price from 720 to 680 i wouldn't have gotten it. I'll probably one tonight or tommorow.

Does it make sense to get the AS501 Sound Bar? can i connect it to my 2.1 setup?

Thanks again.

All reduce image quality in some way (except 1:1 which just removes part of the picture).

Wait - so if you have a 24'' with a 1920x1200 rez and you 1:1 to 1600x1200, it would be the exact same quality? Just cropped on both sides?

Correct. It's just centered.

Personally, I wouldn't. You could put your $30 towards a $100 set of Logitech or Klipsch speakers and you'd be much better off.

You could pick up a set of these Z2300's for $100 AMIR.

http://www.compusa.com/products/product...=1&D=z2300&Ntk=All&product_code=316260

I have the Z2200's, which these replaced, and they are really great computer speakers. They aren't audiophile quality of anything, but they have a decent sub and the satellites are nice and clear. Great for gaming and movies, and still good for music.

Just ordered the 2407WFP.....it was just so much cheaper than the BenQ. the 2407 came out to $692 with tax (Dell forums have a coupon for forum users only, 20% of the 2407) couldn't pass that up.
Only prob is the ship date is the 27th?? i dont understand why its so late when i ordered it today, perhaps thanksgiving has something to do with it

hmm idk if i would want to get another LCD in a couple of years. these 24in cost like 700-800ish and i'd want the monitor to last as long as possible. right now i have a dell 1702FP and its great but i just want a bigger screen.
I just bought the 2407WFP and just set it up tonight. Also got the 5-year warranty, which isn't an option with anyone else AFAIK. Dell is also the only one I know of that offers advanced-exchange warranty replacements. Also, chances are if your display fails in a few years, Dell will replace it with the newest model they have, which will likely be an improvement. Some 2405WFP owners have gotten 2407WFP's as warranty replacements.

I have nothing against the BenQ display, though I think BenQ really lacked foresight in not having 1:1 pixel mapping in the current releases (it's rumored a firmware upgrade will cure this, but that upgrade cannot be done by the end user and may not be available as a warranty fix, so you'd have to wait until at least January to ensure you get a revision that has this fix, if not longer). I just think that if I need service, I'll be able to obtain it easier from Dell.

I'm still getting used to this display (so far, my current reaction is "Dang, that's huge"). Won't be making judgements on it for others until I've had it for a few days, but so far, I'm thinking I like it.

A little late, but do not get the sound bar. The *only* thing good about it is that it's compact. The downsides include that it's overpriced and the sound quality is poor. The range of the sound bar is even worse than the generic $10 speakers that I picked up from the local computer store. If you really want it, they're much cheaper at any other place, such as Ebay.

I tend to agree with the above poster. The sound bar is for people who want business audio. It takes up little space, and is in stereo. However, the speakers lack dynamic range and volume is limited. If you're a gamer or watch movies with your PC, you can do far better (I bought my Logitech X-530 5.1 surrounds a year ago for $39 with free shipping when Buy.com had a deal).

Dell LCDs are OEM'd by BenQ for godsakes LOL

Unless you get really picky, most LCDs are the same unless you go high end. That BenQ is not high end, no way.
The differences cited in that review are from a better chip engine.
