Has anyone used both a 2005fpw and 2001fp? I want to buy an LCD as a graduation present to myself, but I don't know which to get. I'd probably actually get a Samsung 20" lcd.

That was a few minutes ago. Now it shows $423. Dell is playing hard-to-get games?

That certainly is strange. Hard to believe without the screenshot. Hopefully you can get it to work out if this is a monitor you want.

Ok, I've had it.

I can reload the page a few times, 1 out 3 it will show $423, the rest are $529. If I do 'checkout' for $423, it takes me to the 'Review Cart' which shows $529! What a bs. I guess I will have to call Dell on the phone.

Thanks for the links to the price, goku. It does look like a good moment to buy that LCD.

It's a LOT of freaking money for a college student, but I can sell my current monitor for ~$200, making this about a $600 upgrade. I'm trying to tell myself my games will look like crap since I could never run the native resolution for any game, except maybe Quake 3 as I have only a GeForce 6800 256MB vanilla!

AHHHH! What do I do?!
Get the 20"...being a college kid, you probably won't be able to afford the yearly video upgrades to run games at native resolution. (And you'll have more money for food )

Top Ramen, 1920X1200 goodness VS Steak, Gaming at 640X480.
Top Ramen diet FTW?

1680x1050 is a little better than 640x480 - I didn't necesarily say that he'd never upgrade, but at least with the 20", he'd only have to do it every 2 years instead of every 12 months

exactly! I never understood why people think a 19" from a 17" lcd is an upgrade when both native resolution is capped @ 1280x1024. esentially all they did was stretch out each pix making it less sharp.

on the other hand, I love my 2405.

Just as a note to people. I purchased the 20" monitor and i've been pretty happy with it. I don't have a video card capable of running the games at that native resolution, but it looks good at like 1280*960, or mostly any variation as long as the aspect ratio is kept in tact. WoW has a ton of widescreen resolutions (all which is specifies as WS in the game so you don't have to guess (not that it would be that hard)).

Hopefully they drop some more! I'd like to pick up another one to use as an HDTV--name another 24" 1080p capable display for $800.

tru dat.....it "dropped" only if you consider that the price actually went up and then down, so we're really back at the starting point - the same deal as a year or so ago. Jepp waiting another year or so, maybe it will drop $5 more.....good luck and happy waiting...

Like people said the 2405 is the best bargain a such a large monitor with such ghigh quality and performance. It UNLIKELY to drop in price any time soon

yes you can !!! if you get a 7900 GT, which is basically the same as my 7800 GTX. It runs ALL games (Quake4, BF2, FEAR, chaos theory, COD2, not to mention UT2K4) at MAX settings on the native resolution (or 1600x1200 if the game doesn't support widescreen). You could get a 7900GT for less than $300 !
