Only if they enable DP1.3 over Type-C. I'm not saying they won't, but the confirmation of DP1.2 seems weird given that GPUs with DP1.3 will be out before this monitor. I'm hoping that the delay is to use an actual DP1.3 port. Either that, or GPUs better come with USB Type-C ports.

http://www.displayport.org/faq/#DisplayPort Alt Mode for USB Type-C FAQs

Yeah, I hope that it comes out appropriately equipped for its USD 5000 price tag. Display port 1.3 enables up to:

1080p - 240Hz HDR
1440p - 170Hz HDR
3440x1440 - 144Hz HDR
4k - 60 Hz HDR
5k - 60Hz SDR

So if I want to go with a 100Hz + high end monitor for content and gaming, it doesn't seem like display port 1.3 will be enough. I have a kind of noob question - can you use 'double display port 1.3' in the same way as some video cards had 'dual link dvi' - to use multiple connection paths to increase the bandwidth?

Not that this Dell is targetting gamers, but some gamers like cutting edge technology. If they put out a 3440x1440 144Hz HDR version of this that'd be great but I'd still be gunning for a 4k 100Hz+ if possible...

Glad to see it hit the market.

Just have to wait and wait for that price to get to reasonable... and then some game to be good enough to warrant that PQ.

The monitor solves the problem of those lousy grey backgrounds in space sims and in dark caves in games on LCDs. I've been waiting for this monitor since the days of the crt with their nice dark backgrounds in the late 1990's.

My credit card has $18,000 usd available so I may buy it today and wait the 2 weeks to get it. Unless Amazon will have it soon. I'll need my dad to pay half now and I can pay him back in 3 months. Or take 6 months to pay all of it off on my own.

Just FYI, I'm pretty sure that Tech Radar and a number of other sites that jumped on this news got the story wrong.

At no point during the press conference and on none of the printed specifications did Dell say this was a 120Hz monitor.

I was there, so I'm pretty confident I'm correct on this one, and if you take a look at a reputable site like Anandtech and Tom's, which I can confirm were also both in attendance, there's no mention of 120Hz capabilities:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9923/dell-demonstrates-30inch-4k-oled-display

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/dell-infinityedge-oled-monitors,30854.html

Hate to say I told you so a year later, but this was entirely blown out of proportion with false quoting of a 120hz refresh rate.

Furthermore, at this point, the price drop does not impress me. The entire OLED market has changed dramatically in the intervening time, and my new 65" LG OLED 4K TV cost significantly less.

Dell missed the boat on this.

Might as well get a 55/65 incher at this price point and just sit a little farther. Hell you can even use the excuse to and the extra space to set up a decent sound system by the display.

Waiting for reports if burn in is anything to worry about for this monitor. If some settings, built in programs and turning the monitor off for a short while fix any burn in then I'll buy it. And on top of those measures there's using dark or black backgrounds and screen savers.

How much of a financial burden is it to implement Freesync? I know there is no license fee, but there must be some kind of real, identifiable challenge with implementing it.

Because why the heck doesn't this have Freesync? Even if it's not a gaming oriented screen, it'd be nice and could really set it apart from TVs.

Unless this thing has very low input lag, which no OLED TV does, then I agree with Bob. Get a larger TV for less and sit further away, if you have the space this option.

After thinking about this, I'm actually glad this isn't 120Hz with FreeSync, because if it was then I would have to choose between buying one and eating, which would be a hard choice.

Given that there have been non-FreeSync monitors that have had FreeSync enabled by updating the firmware alone, it's probably a fair bet that all it takes is an engineer to put in a few minutes making the monitor report that it supports FreeSync, plus whatever time it takes to validate everything. I would expect the cost per-monitor to be very small.

...Because why the heck doesn't this have Freesync?..
They must not see it as a selling point. Rather like how most AM4 motherboards support ECC RAM, but the manufacturers don't bother to advertise it because they think their target market doesn't care.

At 60 hz it's not as cool. The 120 hz made $3k worth it.

Yeah, I'm much less interested in this at 60hz. For that kind of money it's a big drawback not to have that.

Though it's really cool that this is the first OLED monitor, it seems a bit half baked. Also lacks HDR. I feel like Dell rushed it out of the door just to say it wasn't vaporware after all this time.

Hopefully we get a second revision next year with HDR and 120 Hz. I'll be in then.

You are reading wrong thread then, because many are.
Please point them out then and help them.

But I don't see anyone confused. I see people willing to stop chasing this kind of monitor and get the OLED experience via a TV as monitor. Considering it was something CallsignVega did a while back, I don't see how it's not worth considering as a viable option. The limitations are a very known reality. I don't see anyone here that is confused though.
