For all of you lusting after this monitor, consider how expensive it will be to feed this beast with a quality video signal. Even a 7800 GTX SLI setup will strain to run F.E.A.R. of COD2 at 1920 x 1200 with all the graphical bells and whistles enabled. I shudder to think about what you will need to run at 2560 x 1600.

Not to toot my own horn (well, OK, to toot my own horn), but I refer you all to my post on gaming with the 2405. Everything I said there goes double for this behemoth.

Remember Woofmeister's Law (now improved): "If you invest in a top line widescreen LCD you are also making an unswerving commitment to update your video card(s) every six months."

I would probably be playing games at a scaled resolution, but for programming, web design, and multi-tasking, more screen space is a great thing!

Looks awesome!!! Going to be impossible (or damn near it) to game @ native, but quite the screen for other uses. In typical Dell fashion I bet it competes well with the Apple at half the price (you pay a premium for all Apple products). Definitely looks like a winner.

Kind of silly that they're calling it the 3007WFP; FPW is pretty established for Dell's widescreens and of course they couldn't resist but to call it the 3007 and not continue their nomenclature logically and call it the 3005FPW, because 7 is bigger than 5, so it sounds more advanced.

No it's a 7 because that denotes HDCP support, both the 2005 and the 2405 will be updated to 2007 and 2407 (as a poster above me noted) when they add HDCP suport.

Ah! I stand corrected. In that case, it is a good idea to differentiate them.

And boy does HDCP sound stupid. Just another way to make more money (I know, it's a hollywood thing, but it makes no sense for us consumers ).

Phawww.

It's a beauty alright. Personally, I'd still opt for thee Apple monitor, but that's only because it'd be inkeeping with my present stuff, IE, brushed aluminium.

Does look like a very nice item though.. Very nice indeed..

I look forward to some customer reviews of this beast

Oh yeah, I think you mentioned to me that you got in on one of those deals that included the 2405FPW. Mind if I come over for a while?

Still on a 2005 here - realistically I don't know that I could ever see myself buying one of these 30" LCD's, but it sure is nice to drool over and dream about

I'm sure it will, standard store prices.

With the right discounts I got my 20" down to within £55 of the Dell. I expect that it'll probably be a shedload cheaper than the Apple even then, but I doubt I'll ever buy bigger than 23" anyway

I'm curious to see who makes the panel used in this monitor. The viewing angle and response time are more consistent with the current LG.Philips while the contrast ratio and brightness are more along the lines of Samsung's upcoming panel (supposed to be released 1Q 2006).

Anyways, its an exciting time for LCD technology. Sharp has demonstrated a mega-contrast LCD with a CR of 1,000,000:1 with supposedly amazing blacks, and CMO has displayed a 56-inch panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 due for release 3Q 06 (um... Dell, can we expect a $2800 5607wfp?).

to the person that said the 7800gt wouldn't be up to the task...what card would be? even in SLi, modern games will probably be a stretch. But i don't think i'd be gaming at native res, more for every day use, and the gt supports 2560x1600 through DVI.

NOTE: I'm just trying to justify myself not to get a better card.

Will the 2405 price drop like a rock when this new bad boy gets released from Dell? Probably not but I definitely keep my eys on the 2405 price comes January 06.

Not everyone needs the ability to game on such a nice monitor.

Probably not, good guess would be $1699-$1799 for the 3007, so at $1199 for 24" is still enough of a seperation.

Almost certain it's the LG+Philips LM300W01 8-bit S-IPS panel with overdrive. There are no comparable panels that are 30", that resolution, and S-IPS.
