EXCELLENT!!

Something told me to wait. I was heavily planning on getting the 2405fpw but I really wanted the apple 30 inch. But I hated apple for making it so expensive and so pc unfriendly. Even though I was excited bout the 2405 I still saw myself getting used to its size quickly.
I dreamed...."omg I wish dell would come out with a decently priced 30 inch hi res monitor to compete with apple"

I GUESS DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!!!

its nothing like THIS.

i think it will look better with the higher res

Not to mention the lack of banding (presumably) - that is a pretty ugly feature of the Westinghouse...

Any news about pricing?

Not true. My X800XT PE is now 18 months old at least yet I was playing everything (except that loser crap DIII) in 1920 until recent months (when the BiA:EiB-SSII-Q4-CoD2 line arrived).
If you buy the top cards, they will serve you fine at least for a year but rather more.

NOTE: I'm just trying to justify myself not to get a better card.

SLI 7800GTXs work rather nicely at 2560x1600.

Not likely, it's being phased out for the 2407 which will be shipping in feb/mar. You'll see good coupons for it for the next couple of months, but not much better then what people have been getting in the occassional hot deal over the past year.

Info I obtained today from Samsung, for what it is worth:

Samsungs own 30" raw lcd panel is spec'ed at 1000 with 8ms grey. The initial Dell 30" release will (according to Samsung engineering) more than likely be an LG panel, same as in the Apple. This info is current as of today from the Samsung engineering team that produces and supplies the lcd raw panels to Dell and other manufacturers. It is also possible that later on, some Samsung 30" panels may show up in the same 3007 monitor as the current LG panels without a spec change since Dell has to go with the lowest spec of the possible variations of the included raw panel used, but the initial supply will NOT be Samsung, again according to Samsung reps. Whether Dell is under specing the LG 30" panel as they did with the 2405fpw is unknown at the present time. The Samsung 30" Monitor for retail is still up in the air and will probably take a cue from the Dell 3007 sales as far as when and how much production, but it is clear that it probably has a better spec than the LG/3007.

For those griping about games at native resolution...

I'm pretty sure that running centered unscaled 1600 x 1200 in the center of a 30" screen with a black border will still produce a larger image than a typical 21" CRT...

Update:

Ran the calculations:

The full 30" 16:10 panel is aproximately 25.4" x 15.9" in size.

The 1600 x 1200 portion would be ~ 15.9" x 11.9", or about the size of the typical viewable area of a 4:3 21" CRT or 20" LCD.

Thanks for this information! What puzzles me is that the current LG.Philips panel in the Apple has a 400:1 CR, 16ms pixel response time, and a brightness of 300cd/m2. The Dell has significantly better CR/brightness and a faster pixel response, but there have been no announcements (yet) of any update to LG's current panel...
