After reboot, check the tap. Only device 0 set to ULtra DMA mode 2, but not the Device 1
(still PIO). I don't know which one (DVD+RW or DVD/CD-RW) is assinged to Device 0 or 1.

Also, in primary channel, device 1 (I belive secondary hard drive) still set to PIO (even if
"DMA if available")

But, in my laptop's primary channel, both devices (0 and 1) set to DMA (device 0 --> UDMA mode 2,
device 1 --> UDMA mode 5).

make sure you have either default settings in the bios or go in there and see what you can figure out for yourself...a lot of times i have had trouble and the person changed something in the bios and no matter how hard your OS tries, if its wrong in the bios, it wont work

Depending on what OS you got, most likely windows, and what version it is.
I'll tell you how I do it in most of the Windows versions.

Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties"
Click on the "Hardware" tab.
Select "Device Manager"
Expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Conrollers"
Double click on the "Primary IDE Channel"
Click on the "Advance Settings" tab.
Change the "Transfer Mode" from "PIO only" to "DMA if Availble" for your device.
Do the same for "Secondary IDE Channel"

Hope that helps.

It's not just different versions of Windows, it depends on your IDE drivers. Basically all current Intel chipsets won't give you an "Advancec Settings" tab...

I adjusted the setting at Bios. As expected the secondary devices of IDE controller had been off.
So, I just changed to Auto. Reboot and now I can see UDMA mode at all devices in IDE controller.
Thank you for your great help.
