Are you sure about the X300?

This pretty much ruins the laptop, if you ask me. DDR2-533 and a Pentium M on a fast FSB is all very nice, but intel's integrated graphics are just plain awful.

Where is that on their site? I just saw the x300 on a picture someone had gotten from the swedish site (it was taken down quickly though).

EDIT: Ok, looked at the link. Perhaps they have an x300 option on the one model that has all the ? on it...

It's probably an expandable PCIe based system. GMA900 as base, X300 option. It'd be nice if they open up the full range (including Go6800 ) but I doubt that.

The 6000 on the dell site is using an integrated vide chip with shared memory. The 6000 does not use the X300 like people are saying it using an integrated video chip with share memory.

This is on the business web site... Entirely possible the real deal will be offered with a non-integrated video solution and that this is the budget or business flavor...

Well the pics I saw showed a few different config options, so that means it may have an x300 option in the near future.

The x300 isn't exactly a screaming card, though, but would be better. It looks something like a mobility 9700 or so, so I guess it'd be better than integrated for sure.

I heard that the X300 won't be available until the 2nd or 3rd month after the initial release. The initial release will come with the new intel integrated graphics. the 6000 just seems to be a larger version of the 700m.

....I for one would love for them to have come out with a 14.1" widescreen that has a real video card, and weighs around 5lbs. This would be my perfect notebook.

Where did you hear this if you don't mind the question?

I was looking at a new 8600, but thought it best to wait for (what I assumed was its replacement), the 6000. However, I want a video card that can do some occassional gaming at the very least...

It does appear to be "officially available" now on Dell's web site.

And let me be the first to say I am officially dissapointed with the configuration options.

First: only a 1.6GHz processor?!!
Second: only integrated graphics?!!

I hope they plan on correcting this soon because I want to purchase a new notebook!

lol...

There's probably not enough availability of the faster 533 MHz bus Pentium M's for Dell to feel comfortable offering anything faster. Same goes for the graphics. The Mobility X300 and X600 should ramp up by next month.

I suppose the real question is: which notebook is the 6000 replacing? I think everyone assumed the 8600, but this appears to be more of a "budget widescreen" targetting the 5160 or replacing the 700m?

Any rumors of other models coming out to replace the 8600?

Other features missing on the 6000:

Integrated Bluetooth
Integrated 1gpbs ethernet
533MHz memory...

I have heard it is replacing both the 8600 and the 5160, and upgradeable processors/video options will be available at the beginning of February.

Any word on when 9300 will be available?

Suposedly based on NVIDIA chipset so ATI supply problems should not be an issue?

If you look at the benchmarks done at Tom's, you'll notice that operation with dual channel ram doesn't do much at all for any of the benchmarks. They suggest that dual channel would be more important with systems using shared memory(using the ima900 instead of a x600 or other graphics card) since the graphics would be eating up part of the bandwidth all of the time.

i'm interested in the onboard solution, because it saves more power than the the x600 etc. i don't plan to use it for gaming.

they have now released a 6000D, which has either a 64, or a 128MB ATI card.
