As I understand it, they're almost identical. I have heard that the case plastics (metals?) on the D600 are much stronger than that of the 600m. Not having seen either of them in person, I can't say firsthand, mind you.

the differences are the cases, the D600 can't use the 64mb video card from what i hear, and perhaps max RAM on it, but those have been told they both max at 2GB of RAM. the case and video are pretty much the only differences outside the D600 having both the pointing stick and touchpad while the 600m only has the touchpad. the 600m is awesome, i love mine.

If you don't want the 64MB video card, you might as well go with the d600 due to the better build quality (according to pretty much every review I've seen)

Thats not to say that the 600m's build quality sucks. Its just not quite as good as what the d600 has. I have a 600m and I'm extremely happy with it.

Hum! interesting, I would prefer to have a 64 mb v-card, nontheless, it is not an absolute mandate. but is there a size (weight) differences between the two due to the different case construct?

I believe the D600 costs more because it comes with a 3 year warranty by default instead of the 1 year that the 600M defaults to.

It also seems that you get better deals with the 600M. DELL seems to more frequently throw in free CD-RW, RAM, or whatever with the Inspirons than with the Latitudes.

The D600 has a built-in smartcard reader. That probably is one of the main reasons for the price difference, along with the fact that it has a D-Port.

I have a strong predilection for D600 due to the stronger casing and superior warranty. Plus, I just tested my friend?s 600m. I notice the laptop feels kind of plasticky which is a negative for my ?abusive? usage (I tend to drop or break things more easily compare to the average users. ).

So, do you think there will be a NEW BATCH of laptop debuts around August. (I know manufactures just released several product lines for Centrino, but maybe there will be an update for the Pentium M processors )

Do you have a source for this?

Or just that they aren't currently selling it with the 64mb video card?

ahhh, so many choices so little $$$. I wish major manfacturers would slaughter each others just like they do with desktop pcs, then laptop would be so much cheaper.

The 600m has both. It has a smart card reader, as well as the standard D-port. I dont think there really is any difference in the electronics of the two machines. Also, the d600 taking only 32mb video card seems to be a policy decision rather than a limitation.

The latitude d600 is the business/corporate model, the inspiron 600m is home use. Since the d600 is geared towards business they didn't feel the need to offer a 64meg video card, as most employers don't want to give their employees machiens just to play games on. Otherwise they should use the same motherboard and chipset.

strange, under cnet's product listing, there seems to be 2 variations on 600m ( home vs. business). The home edition is thicker and heavier!
