dell 700m external monitor help??

Hi all, I have a 700m, and just bought an acer 20.1 wide lcd model AL2016W. Its native res is 1680x1050. But i cant seem to get my computer to do that, it gets to 1450x1050, and 1600x1200. I tryed downloading acer drivres didnt work, And im lost, i know it can output this resolution because i found on other sites people got it to work with other monitors. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The output res. is limited by your GPU. Some cards have the ability to enable custom or forced res. Please post your specs.

He has a Dell Inspiron 700m with an Intel 855GME integrated video chipset. I've done a Remote Assistance session with him, and both Display Settings and PowerStrip allow him to select 1600x1200 or 1920x1200, but not 1680x1050. I made sure he had the Acer display driver installed, and he still can't select the correct resolution. Both PowerStrip and his video driver settings show the monitor's maximum resolution to be 1680x1050, but he can't select it. I'm stumped.

I had him try the Dell 2005FPW driver instead of the Acer driver, as both panels have the same native resolution. He still couldn't select 1680x1050.

get a cheap video card. useing onboard video is junk with a nice LCD. $50 should get you DVI something.
