Dell 8600

I was looking at the 8600 with these specs:

Pentium M 755 (2ghz/400mhz) 15.4 WUZGA
Full Service warranety
1 GGB DDR SDRAM 1 DIMM
ATI MOBILITY 9600 PRO TURBO
24x CD-RW/DVD COMBO
60GB HARD DRIVE (5400 RPM???)

$2171(around this price would be preferable).



This would be my first laptop, so ive been taking alot of time deciding on what to buy.
I game alot and do alot of websurfing, and portability is nice...but weight is not an issue, and battery life isnt a big deal cause ill just use the AC.
Since i dont know all the comparable lappys from the other manufcaturers I would like any feedback for suggestion you guys can offer.

If you can get a deal through IBM (like if you're a student or know someone who works there), get a ThinkPad with almost the same specs. They have a 60GB 7200RPM, you can get 1GB DDR RAM, mine came with a regular 9600 but I think they offer 9700's now, CDRW no prob, and the same CPU. The only diff is IBM doesn't have 15.4 widescreen, but they do offer 15" UXGA, which is mighty nice. IMO, IBM build quality is MUCH MUCH higher than Dell's. If you want something in a widescreen, then I would go HP zt3000 series. They offer all the same options, but I'm not sure on the price.
If you have to get the Dell, make sure you get the super kick @$$ warranty. I'd bet that you'll end up needing it

Thanks fbrdphreak, I keep reading great things about IBM at this forum, so i will certainly check it out, although I'll have to work on finding a way to get a discount.

I was checking IBm's website and the best graphics card i found on any of the series was the ATI 7500? Do you got a link that has one with the 9600 or 9700??
