So guy's it looks like it is shipping Friday the 5th. A bit late IMO, but I still am eager to purchase one if the prices are as stated.

So, what do you think? Will it show? What are your impressions of it so far?

I'm going to be purchasing a netbook soon and am torn between the Dell 910, and MSI Wind. I did just find the Gigabyte M912 and have been absolutely drooling over it but a US release is still questionable.

Oh the decisions!

its still there, but it got pushed past page two since nobody posted a comment in a while. however, you can change your options to display older topics. click on your profile settings, then 'personal options' then 'days back to view topics for'. i think the default is 7(?) days. i think changing the number to something bigger will let you view older topics etc

Keep in mind that the price as stated is for "entry-level configurations" which, from posted specs, is only 512MB of RAM and a 4GB SSD.

A co-worker and I each bought Asus EeePC's with the rebates that were out there last month. Our boss, who tends to buy things based on brand and not features, saw us comparing out two notebooks and said "you should've waited for the Dell. It has better memory and a better SSD for less money." What makes it "better"? The fact that it's sold by Dell?

That said, I'm sure Dell will sell an ass load. Joe Averageuser doesn't know who Asus, Acer or MSI are. They'll buy a Dell because it gives them warm fuzzies.

Anyone know if Dell is coming out with a 10 inch version? An 8.9 netbook is just a tad too small for me.

Haha!!! I won't knock it until I try it, but I love the typical Dell nickel and diming here.

$299 quickly became almost $500 by just giving the unit 1GB of RAM, a 1.3MP camera and BT 2.1 and I'm still stuck with a 4-cell battery and only 16GB SSD. Still no Windows option (no real big loss IMHO).

Let's wait for the typical Dell rebates and coupon codes to roll in.

It's much cheaper than the Asus 901 with intel atom.

> Still no Windows option

?? did you miss that the $399 version is XP with 8 GB SSD, or $450 for XP, 1GB RAM and 16 GB SSD?

$349 with 512 / 4 GB / linux / 9" screen is a better value than the Asus eee 7" screen / 4 GB model at the same price.

The MSI Wind with XP, 1 GB, 10" screen at $499 is interesting, especially if you prefer a 120 GB HD to a 16 GB SSD.

I don't "need" any of these so I'm still trying to pick something in the range of a $299 eee 7" up to some $2,000 Dynamism.com thinbook import.

Yes, by $100 MSRP and all the Asus gives you over the Dell is a longer life battery. But something like the MSI comes in at less for more. And personally, I went with the 900 even though the 901 was also an option because the Celeron is much faster than the Atom and they're $100 cheaper than the pimped out Dell (not including the additional $100 rebate that was running on the 900's last month.)

A friend of mine got the 901 with the Atom, even after I told him about the benchmarks on the web showing it's about half as fast as a Celeron even at 50% higher clocks. That thing is so painfully slow even doing simple office stuff it's not even funny. I'd have to shoot somebody... or maybe even myself.

You don't know about the 900's? The EeePC 900 16GB Linux (W047 in white, BK041 in black) has a 8.9" LCD, 16GB SSD, 1GB DDR, 1.3mp camera and has an MSRP of $399.99. To hit that near that price with the Dell and still get the 1.3mp camera, I'd have to go with an 8GB SSD and that gives me a price of $409. Sure, I get the Atom processor, but... I'm telling you... I REALLY don't want that Atom processor.

Yes, I did miss it first time through because I started at the lowest price and added features on to it. When you start with the $349 unit, Windows is not an option. Weird. They should make it where all options are available in every configuration.

For the record, my "haha" was not so much directed towards Dell, but to all of the hype this thing lead in with as if it was going to be super cheap yet feature packed and then turns out to be an "also ran". Leave it to the press to give us the entry level price, as well as the specs for the higher end unit (without it's potential price). I commend Dell on entering this market (for the consumer, the more the merrier), and I'm sure they had little to do with the over-hyping of this thing and probably wanted a quiet launch (otherwise I'm sure they would've done their own campaigning). I will still say that it will probably outsell every other mini-notebook out there simply because it's "Dell".

I got the Asus EEE 1000H (1.6 ghz atom, 10'' screen, 80 gb HD, 1.3mp camera, 1 gig memory, and BT) for around $415 after the MS Live rebate. You can also get the 901 (8.9'' screen) version that will match the exact specs on the Dell for the same price. This Dell system simply matches both Asus and Acer's offering (MSI Wind is not offered in 8.9''), which is a bit late considering both Asus and Acer have been out for a few months now.

What store did you get it from that offers so much cash back? How do you like it? I am debating getting the Lenovo S10, the Asus 1000H, Acer One 6 cell, or MSI Wind. Oh the choices and lack there of...

not a store, it's just through ebay's 'buy it now' option for $550. every once in awhile, Microsoft will give you 25-35% off anything you get on ebay if you buy it through 'buy it now.'

just click this link (basically a search for 'Cheap PC' on msn live) and watch the cash back percentage fluctuate throughout the day.
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=cheap+pc&form=QBRE

once you are on ebay with the cash back icon on top, anything you buy with 'buy it now' will have that corresponding discount.

Ah... I knew about the ebay cash back but lately it has only been 5-10%. At that price difference I'd rather purchase it from a regular e-tailer such as zipzoomfly. I believe they have it for $505.
