Wondering if any one can chime in and give their opinions? My lappy just died last night and we need a new one! don't want to spend over $1500, this laptop will be used for basic school use, pic editing, maybe some video editing (not a ton but some) and my wofes scrapbooking. Thanks for the help all!!!!

What models are they?
Dell has a promotion on that laptop you are describing. Are you seeing it in the 1100 dollar range?
I think that's a decent price.
I also love Lenevo's, tough, reliable, etc. However they seem pricey once you are start loading all the goodies on it.
I know nothing about Asus.

foghorn: I did see the sale on Dell, upgraded the processor and hard drive still under $1500 with what I changed. The first Dell I listed is on Best Buys site, of course backordered! The Lenevo's are defenitely nice but not as mch bang for the buck in my opinion?

You can get good systems from all three. My technolust currently is for the laptop that provides a eSATA port on the case. Why not! They all have SATA drives, so the controller is there. Asus showed one at the last CES, but it has not bubbled up. Dell has been thinking about it. There are PCMCIA and PC Express cards for eSATA, but why have to carry an extra card? C'mon Lenovo! Your turn!

I think the Dell in the last spec is compelling (the last one listed). That resolution on a small screen must look amazing. My friend has a 1900x1200 Dell Vostro on a 17", and it's surreal. I can't wait to see a 15" laptop with that.

Yesss! That's like the one at CES. Looks like a winner all the way. Thanks for the link, Hwan!

Generally from my experience, I find the following: Dell is great bang for the buck, the Lenovo/IBM (and I'm talking Thinkpads, not budget Lenovo) machines are generally more costly but totally bulletproof. From new machines to the old 486 I have laying around here somewhere, you just can't beat 'em. I have an older T40 and it's fantastic for what I use it for. Totally reliable machines. My work Dell laptop is less than a year old and already blew the motherboard - which according to the IT department is something that has been happening to them regularly.
