There does not seem to be a DVI port on ANY Dell laptops (at least on those that are real laptops with 15" or smaller screen). How the above are good deals? All of them include 3 year warranty and service which is a $300+ item (pretty useless, for most anandtech'ers). If that were taken out that would have been an Ok deal, but these are not a good deal at all. One can get a MUCH stronger configuration, e.g. in Dell Inspiron 1525 for the same money.

If you DON'T think a free 3 year warranty on a laptop is a great thing to have, then you haven't had many laptops or haven't travelled frequently with one.

My work computer is a D620 laptop. The best feature I got is the extended battery. While everyone else is bending down connecting their power bricks for their laptops I rest easy knowing that I can get close or around 4 hours of use without charging. No meeting runs that long... Priceless.

Good prices but not happy that the base configurations come with only 512 MB of RAM. That'l cost you extra. Any recommendation on an less expensive (then Dell) memory upgrade?

The Dx30 series laptops have been out since late June 2007. I can't believe Dell still has so much old stock/parts to clear. Isn't their JIT system much more efficient than it seems from this deal?

3 years is great but it is mail-in service and not onsite service.
I'm interested in the D820.

Few things to note:

Avoid the D420's. They're flaky (I know, I used to buy/support them).

The 620's and 820's are nice machines, the Quadro cards are okay (They're basically a GeForce Go 7400) - but keep in mind that whatever RAM is listed on the video card is only physically HALF of that. The other half is system memory (TurboCache/HyperMemory/Whatever). So the 512MB card is actually a 256MB card + 256MB TurboCache (System Memory). The 256MB card is 128MB + 128MB system.

SPRING FOR THE WARRANTY FOLKS!!! And if you can, get Gold Support instead of regular... trust me, it makes a HELL of a difference.

If I remember correctly, when these models were current, they came with ONSITE warranty. You couldn't even downgrade to mail-in.

Just checking the temperature here -- how many of those who said this is a great deal jumped on it? Not a single "thanks OP, in 4 1" so far! And, yes, I've had many laptops (have personally gone through about 8, 4 of which were Dells [one of which was Latitude D600 -- no difference from my wife's Inspiron 600m]), heck my Dell "systems list" has 10 items all of which are Inspiron laptops bought for family over the years. I'm yet to deal with my first failure on them.

Edit: and yes I've traveled extensively with Dell 600m and IBM T60p (my current) -- no issues as of yet. IMO it just depends as much on how careful the USER is as on the build quality.

Lastly, I agree that 3 yr. warranty is a great thing to have, but figuring in depreciation, etc. paying $300 for it is just plain stupid, as it is a price of the same or better laptop couple of years down the road.

We got a bunch of D620's at work. They're nice, especially at $600. My only complaint was the screen. Every one had severe backlight bleeding from the top and bottom edges.

All prices dropped on the ones that are left and they upped the RAM from 512MB to 1GB. I might order the D820 to replace my 8600 from the hot deal several years ago.

I bought the 820.

If you are expecting a nice high resolution screen beware. It comes with the low end wxga monitor, not the high resolution ones. not bad overall although you will notice that this models are being discontinued by dell.

Do you like the 820? We have D620s at work and I don't like the 14.1" widescreen. The lower resolution wxga is ok with me as long as the screen resolution quality is good (i.e. crisp). The text characters on the high resolution laptop screens are too small for my old eyes and increasing the font size seems to make some images fuzzy. Maybe I need new glasses, LOL.

We have 620s at work too so I know what to expect. The 820 is nearly the exact same thing except the screen is bigger.

Love the 820, got one here, and the OP has wrong stats, it comes with 1 Gig, and the Nvidia Quattro, not the shit intel video.
