Dell deal or dud?

I'm looking to get a HTPC/gaming rig to hook up to my LCD projection TV and have been waiting for the SLI boards to drop in price. I was poking around the Dell site and can get this for $1407 shipped...

The only reason I'm thinking about getting it is cause of the video card and I'm getting tired of waiting. Am I crazy for even considering this?

Yes you are crazy

You can do better than that building it yourself. I do not see $1400+ worth of hardware there.

You can do much better. Get an A64 for gaming over a P4, and IMO DDR2 is not worth it right now.

Its not worth it, plus it would run cooler if you built it, and quieter too if that P4 is a prescot.

I've seen similar system at dell with a 20" LCD for that much.

I just got a similar system from Dell with a 19" ultrasharp and a 17" LCD TV for $1250. And I live in a state that Dell charges tax for. So no that is not a good deal. I ordered and paid for a 3.2 and they gave me a 3.4. By the way the system is very quiet. I cannot hear it at all sitting next to the rig I built. Barely hear it when nothing else is running. I don't care if it is a Prescott, it is very quiet. There is only one fan in the case that pulls the heat from the cpu directly out of the case.

The dell that I got makes a good media center pc. But, the one you have there is not worth $1400. I would only pay about $700 for it. Look what I got for $1250.
