DEAL IS ALIVE AGAIN.

Link

I know there are normally a ton of Dell deals....saw this and thought others might like it:

At the SB site you can get the Dell Dimension 4700 w/ FREE 17" LCD, without any upgrades, for $499 A/R

The one upgrade I like is the 17" Ultrasharp LCD for only $49 more. There are others, but I can buy them chaper than from Dell.

The only thing I see on Dell.com is free LCD upgrade (doesn't say 17" either) on SELECT Dimensions starting at $649, big difference than $499...

Well it is a crippled Dell system for that price... 256MB, 40gb drive, XP home (probably no cd's for unistalling/reinstalling), etc.

It should actually include cds. It is however a stripped down system. You would need a burner, more memory, and a larger hard drive to make this hot.

The DEAL is hot. The monitor sells for around $225 using the best deal you can find from Dell. So then the 4700 winds up costing you about $275. That's far cheaper than you can get even the base Dell system for, and the 4700 is a lot nicer (front mount USB ports, etc.).

I used a Dell 4550 for a year and a half, and loved it. I bought a Dell 8400 desktop to replace it about 3 months ago. These Dell deals kick butt - this 4700 deal with the free 17" LCD is a pretty killer deal...

Sorry about not getting the link. Thanks to socoony for posting it. I agree that this 4700 is not a blazer. However, I would rather add my own DVD Drive, HD and RAM since I can do it cheaper than Dell. Most of the time you can get these items from OfficeMax for FREE A/R. The only real upgrade I like is for the 17" Ultrasharp LCD for $49. It has a lot more features that the free 17". This is a great computer for the kids and I can swap monitors with them

I also forgot to mention that there is FREE S/H on this offer. I did have to pay taxes though ~$50.

Is any consumer able to buy this? Or is it solely for small businesses? I read the terms on the Dell site and couldnt find anything out. Did anyone on here buy this yet?

I think a lot of people have ordered from Dell Small Business by using your name as the company name. Maybe your small business will be reselling Dell 17" LCD monitors on Ebay for a profit <grin>

Anyone can order from Dell's SB site. I have purchased several computers from here before. I put "NONE" in the company name. You do not need a Federal tax ID unless you are claiming tax exempt. You can use your personal CC with no problems.

So this is confirmed FREE s&h? I think I will pounce on this as I was looking for a decent upgrade to my artifact of a computer.

You could always click that EDIT button on your original first post and put in that link. That makes it easier on others who want to take advantage of this deal

I did just buy a HP AMD64 3300+ today: 512mb, 160mb HDD, DVD RW+/-CD-RW for $629 AR. Which is the btter deal? If I had to buy to upgrade the Dell to the above specs I think it might go higher than the $629, but factoring in the 17" LCD I don't know. What would the value of that LCD be off-hand? I see some cheap 17" LCD's under $200 now.

Also what kind of memory is the DDR2? Is that the same DDR3200 (400Mhz) that's in my HP now? Looks like I'd have to buy a Promise SATA/Ultra ATA card to be able to use both types of sdrives as well.

Most of dells newer motherboards have both SATA and normal pATA ide plugs on them. Check the specs.
DDR2 is NOT pc3200 btw. It will say PC2-3200 if its ddr2. DDR 1 and DDR2 are not the same. DDR2 has 240 pins, DDR1 has 184 pins. There's no AMD 64 that has DDR2 yet, since the memory controller is built into the AMD CPU. AMD said they are planning on one later this year I think. They said it doesn't make the system much faster.

You have a much better system overall than this dell deal, but its without monitor I'm guessing. Oh and you dont mention the graphics card you have? DVD writers are cheap, get 16x dual layer for $40 on sale or less, or $60 at newegg. 160 meg hdd, they are also cheap. Tehre's been tons of sales for 200 gig drives around $60 lately. 512 megs of pc3200 starts around $50 for generic and for some corsair or mushkin you can get it for around $70ish. The 3300+ amd64 is pretty interesting. Apparently its not officially released yet and is a new version called paris. Probably worth sometwhere about $175 I'm guessing from pricewatch between normal 3200+ 64 and 3400+ 64.
This is the best info I can find on it: http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=34562
Depending on the motherboard it could be $100-$150 worth or so.

The 17" lcd is worth minmum of $200. If you get the upgraded 1704fp dell LCD monitor for $49 more its worth probably more like $300. Some of the upper end dell LCD's are quite sought after. They often have better specs and are cheaper than very good models from samsung, etc. Also many of the better ones have very good response times. Like 12ms

Just add it to the cart and confirm it for yourself

Yes, S/H is free. I ordered mine this morning. I also added the upgraded 17" LCD for another $49. Read the monitor specs on Dell's site and you will see it is worth the extra $$.

Its SUCH a great deal, however, it seems that the 100.00 rebate expires today, 1-30-05.

a - no such thing as a 3300+
b - DDR and DDR2 are 2 VERY different things, they have different types of slots and are not compatible with each other.

There may not be an AMD64 3300+ but this is HP that posted the specs, not me...

AMD64 3300+ @ OD

Also the reason I asked what kind of memory the DDR2 was so I could price that kind of specific memory if I do take the plunge on the DELL. I usually look at AMD systems so the Intel components I overlook, and I thought they had different numbering systems than other DDR.
