What is the resolution on the 27"er? Does it need 2 graphics cards?

1920 x 1200 res on the 27"
6ms gray-to gray
1000:1
DVI, VGA, Component, Composite
It only has one DVI port, so you don't need 2 connectors

27" Support page

1680x1050 on the 22"

22" product page

Edit: fixed the link... I don't know why AT busted it first time around... oh well

I am reasonably sure you only need a single-link DVI card. The 2407, which is basically the same sans a few inches, only requires a single-link DVI connection.

Right, 1920x1200 resolution doesn't require dual-link DVI.

BTW -- iseestars, your first link is a little mangled.

I was thinking the same thing! Nice bday present for myself...

Concerns:
- I have 1600x1200 now, would I notice the loss of 150 vertical pixels with 1680x1050?
- It might not fit in my current desk - an old hutch desk we've had since it housed our Apple IIe back in the 80's!

Just snagged the E228 for $282 (govt price) no tax and no shipping. Hopefully it looks nice when it comes in.

I noticed it. I prefer playing games on the 1600x1200. been doing it for years. I felt cheated when I went to 1680x1050.

1600x1200 = 1,920,000 pickels
1680x1050 = 1,764,000 pickels

Now if the 1600 is sweet pickels and the the 1680 is dill pickels you might like the 1680 more, but as dajeepster said, you'll notice that you have ~150,000 less pixels on your screen.

$1399 for the 27? isnt the 30 going for slightly more at one point?

I would be all over it @ $800 or so, but $1399 is out there...

ya $1399 is stupid.

I'd buy the 37" 1080p Westinghouse for that price (if not cheaper) before i bought the 27" Dell..

Nice price on the 22" though.

Yeah, and the resolution difference is huge.
1920 x 1200 is the same as the 24".

The only thing the 27 offers over the 24 is 3 inches, and the only thing it offers over the 30 is more inputs.

I have a 2405FPW and a Westy 37" 1080p side by side (well 2405 rotated 90), and I have to say, there is no friggin contest. Size matters

Does E228WFP have Dell's "Ultrasharp" (S-IPS?) panel? (My guess is that it does not, otherwise it would have been all over the monitor description). Resolution and size aside, how does it compare to 2007WFP? Any reviews?

you make a good point about losing those pixels in widescreen mode...

hmm... but i wonder if these new panels are going to be plagued with the backlight bleeding and banding that the early 2005fpw's suffered from...

i like gaming at 16x12... but gaining 2 more inches of monitor viewing space sounds sweet!

i remember going from 17 -> 20 and noticing a big difference. 20 -> 22 seems like a nice upgrade as well.

i still notice the loss of vertical pixels and i've been using 1680x1050 for more than a year and a half.

as for the 2707, iirc , 1900x1200 doesn't require dual-link.

kinda disappointing, it's not more resolution than a 24", and still no HDMI.

when you went from 17 to 20 you probably also went from 1280x1024 (or 1024x768) to 1600x1200. with a 22 widescreen, everything might be slightly bigger, but you'll have less desktop area to work with.

I really only play World of Warcraft these days, so I could easily move around my UI to fit the new dimensions.

And then when I'm not gaming, I'm usually doing three things: websurfing, IM'ing, and watching some recorded TV show. I'm not starved for height at all, so I wouldn't miss 150 pixels, but with more width I could make the TV window larger

However I do want to find out if I'd be losing image quality by making the switch. Any reviews out on this yet?
