Greetings my friends,Having trouble with laptop stuck at Dell Secure Manager.

Contact Dell support. If you can provide proof that he is the registered owner of the computer, they can usually give you a code that will unlock the BIOS. If it is out of warranty, they may charge a fee to do it but will be a lot cheaper than replacing the motherboard.

This is the way to go. We used to do this in the forums, but found suspicion that people were doing this on stolen machines, so we have backed away for this practice. I am sure Dell will get you all set though.

Well thanks for responding,It is not my computer and I am trying to fix it for a man that owns a convenient store and his daughter got it from a friend that she loaned money too,I asked her parents to get her name and shipping address because Dell asked for that info. his daughter told him that her friend doesn't remember, probably because she doesn't want her parents to know she doesn't have it anymore,I spent days researching and working on it to get it back from the dead,but to no avail. What a waste of time on my part and wont even get anything for my troubles.
I have even looked at the sites that ask for money to give a code but I am concerned that they are untrustworthy .
After seeing the type of security these people put into these machines I will tell people not to buy them.I will build them instead and make sure they never use that password type security.These company's will be hurting themselves real soon.I warn people about how these company's charge an arm and leg for utter junk..

If it's truly just a bios password, normally, either shorting pins on the bios chip itself for a few seconds works, or removing the bios battery and all other sources of power for up to a minute works. Toshiba's have a set of contacts that you need to short ( u21 or something like that ) when you turn on the computer. Maybe Dell has the same thing?

That will not work on a laptop. Laptop theft is such a widespread problem that all OEMs generally require proof of ownership in order to provide the fix. Some even require that the machine be sent in to one of their repair stations.

Vent understood and appreciated - however, that's the way it is. I have had laptops (about 7) since 1994, and have never put in a BIOS password, and I don't intend to start.

This is unfortunate.

You've done what you can, though. In the end, it's not your fault, and not your responsibility - that friend shouldn't be giving away things that aren't hers to give away, and if the system is unusable, she should pay back the loan money.

Also totally believable that some friend of a friends daughter would have a Latitude. (Unless they bought it refurb/stolen.)

No way you (OP) can blame Dell for not wanting to aid an abet the use of stolen lappys! Or desktops.

If U had a bought and paid for PW protected lappy stolen, you would celebrate this.
