Ok I did some research and here's what I found out:

1) I'm helplessly addicted to laptop deals

2) According to Dell's tech specs the RAM maxes out at 512MB with 2 available slots:
128 MB SDRAM standard, upgradeable to 512 MB maximum
SDRAM configurations include one of 128, 192, 256, 384 or 512 MB
2 SoDIMM sockets, one is user-accessible and one is factory configurable

3) Damn Crucial.com does not sell RAM for this laptop. So it looks like I'd get the free RAM upgrade instead of the $100 rebate.

4) Damn ePinions.com has no reviews for this relatively new laptop but I did find this (search for 2650) and this.

*Rapidly looks at Dell's site, repeatedly through the entire day, trying to make up mind*

Sigh. I've been wishing I'd jumped on that 8100 deal as well when it came by, but just couldn't pull the trigger finger then. The other two deals are OK, but nothing exceptional IMO.

The bundle deal ( 6V776-Bundle ) is actually really good IMO after the rebate... but it doesn't allow you to customize the hardware ( well, hardly any at all ). I'd get this, but the video card only has 8MB of memory ( although it is a GeForce Go, so 3D performance shouldn't totally suck ). The rest of the lappy looks really good, though IMO -- I couldn't touch the price with any other configuration at Dell or other laptop sites that I briefly visited.

If they'd offered a good video card option on the bundle deal ( either 16MB+ in a GeForce format or even better a Radeon 7500 mobile option ), I would have parted with the money, even though it's a bit more than what I'm hoping to spend.

I may change my mind, but at the moment it's just not hot enough to burn a hole in my wallet.

Dell sells memory sticks for 2600, about $79 for 256MB.
You can take the rebate and buy the memory stick,
toast one of the preinstalled 64MB stick and
get 320MB memory with 20 bucks less.

So does anyone have experience with using a coupon and rebates with Dell? I have done a lot of coupon and rebate deals elseware so I know most places don't have a problem, but I've never done one at Dell. The rebate form is kind of vague:

Rebates are redeemable after purchase at regular system price.
further down it reads:
Offer may not be combinable with all other offers or discounts available from Dell Home Systems Co.

Whaddya think?
