I know a few of you were looking at prices on the 17inch Planar PX171M with the fast 16ms refresh, and today (until 2/13) Dell appears to be offering an unadvertised 10% off peripherals via their home division.

PX171M search on dell

Price $569-10%(56.90)=$512.10, made sweeter with free ground (3-5day) shipping. Plus sales tax if applicable to your neighborhood!

Discount appears automatically and is valid until 2/13.

These are apparently awesome monitors with pixel white to black switch rates of 16ms - half that of regular LCD monitors. Also has some MAC-like adjustments on the stand (one finger adjustable, rotatable) and built in speakers (dubious about those )

Product comparison here if you are interested, specs below:

I picked one of these up last week for $519 and set it up last night. Played some UT2003 and Age of Mythology with no ghosting whatsoever. Also watched a concert on DVD with equally impressive picture quality. BTW, I'm using the DVI port with an ATI 9500 Pro. Good stuff!

You can bring down the price another $50 if you use one of the coupon codes (good until Feb 13 in my case) that Dell Home sent out with their last catalog. For me it came out to $462 shipped.

The only review I saw was a brief blurb at PCWorld. Can anyone else comment on the merits/downfalls of this LCD. It looks very tempting.

I'm very tempted to get this, but I really want a 18" DVI Ya think it's realistic of me to expect one (on sale through some deal, obviously) for ~$600 within the month?

For those on a budget, they have the pl150 with 25ms response total and 300/450 brightness contrast with analog for 275. For those running accounting or CAD, might be worth buying 2 of those over one of these. Unless you think you'l really see a difference in DVI vs RGB the 2d quality wil be much better.

definitely worth it.. i paid almost $600 for mine and i love it. the colors look better than the hitachi one in my opinion and the fast response time is a beautiful thing when it comes to games and movies. mine came with one dead pixel but i only notice it when i'm trying to. in those cases it's really, really annoying though. anyways, i still highly recommend this monitor, but if you're not a gamer then you might consider one of the other planar monitors. ever since they introduced the px line all the old models have had pretty nice rebates going on.

I'm still bitter. I was in the market for an LCD the day after that expired. $self->kick(); Maybe I'll wait.

Sirspotticus - not sure how the warranty with Planar works but I understod that they cover sub-pixell, not even just the whole rgb pixel. If that is the case they might RMA. My experience of Planar is "excellent customer service". Might be worth a try.

What's your impression of the 2D performance? Is the text clean and steady? Also - is the stand good or is it gimmicky? It soundsuseful to have a rotate option if you are working on legal docs etc.

How about 2XPL150-BK 15-inch LCD Monitor? (275X2)-10%-50off400. And the final comes up to 225 each.

This thing have a nice 25ms response time.

Only thing bad is that it does not have DVI.

Edited: Another bad thing is that it does not have a Wide viewing angle.

Talk about deal killer.

you can still get the 1800FP for $496 shipped via their Small Business 20% off select monitors and a 10% off(or 15% off if you can find one) coupon... I just bought one around 1am 2/11/03 and its already shipped, I expect it to be here tomorrow if not possibly tonight(not likely, but I can always hope!)... I still have one extra 10% off coupon that I bought(I bought a few coupons from some ppl, but they wont stack against each other) PM me if you want it(for a small fee cuz I need to make up for buying them...

How'd you put this together? I'm not seeing the "20% off select monitors" thing anywhere...

Just got in on the deal. Thanks Zeeeter. I ordered the PX171M-SI for 452.00 shipped next day. I got the next day because the 30 dollar coupon would not work with my 50 dollar coupon and the ten percent. (Even though it says it will). I called customer care and ordered over the phone and they gave me the next day free becuase they could not get the 30 dollar coupon to go through. Very nice. Can't wait to see this baby.

thanks zeeeter,
i'm going to have to check out that warranty. as far as the construction and functionality of the stand, i absolutely love it. at first i thought it was kind of cheap looking but it works really nicely. and 2d looks great on this bad boy too. i haven't really found anything wrong with this monitor yet.

if ur lucky enough to have one of the $100off$400 coupons, you can pick this badboy up for ~$380 shipped (depending on tax).
don't forget to use the $30off$350 stackable coupon that is good for TODAY (2/12) ONLY!!! If you don't have the $100 off coupon, u can still get this for $480 which isn't bad either.

Has anyone been able to stack the $30 off with another coupon? I have a $100 off $400, and when I apply both, the $30 one drops off.

This looks like a neat monitor, but I'm a little concerned about the viewing angle (140 deg H/V), and a line in a PCWorld review that said something about crappy color quality with the 16ms panels.
