Anyone know how I can make my comp see the HD? Btw, I sent in the UPC cutout, I thought that'd be the most proof of purchase thing I could send in.

Got mine yesterday and had the same questions about the rebate. It came in a plastic shell case with the UPC code on the bottom. There were no other Proof of Purchase or stickers. A little confusing with the instructions on the rebate form.

You can plug in the second IDE port on that Maxtor controller. It should works fine.

Received mine yesterday \o/

No ata card with mine tho i'm guessing that none of the backordered ones will have the cards. It did not come with an invoice, but instead a note saying that the invoice will be following the shipment within 3-5 business days, which i found odd. I was one of those who cancelled their order and re-instated it. That note also said that my new invoice will reflect a later date, but that WD has a list of names of people who bought within the qualifying period and will honor the rebate regardless.

Like others, mine came with only a 1 year warranty and a flyer to purchase a three year for $14.95, all-in-all still a hot deal. I see some ppl trying to recall what the original Dell page said, i saved the original site (screenshot AND web page complete save) as well a copy of all the rebate forms. If anyone is interested in a copy just PM me.

Not sure if I should start a new thread for this, but anyone using their drives notice that it makes a high-pitched whining noise when the drive is at idle? The noise is very high-pitched...sort of like the sound you hear when your "ears are ringing" except not quite as high and clean sounding. Did a google search and other people seem to have had similiar problems with Western Digital drives of smaller capacity.

The noise starts up as soon as you power up the drive and doesn't seem to be related to drive activity as it's there constantly. If you put your ear about 6 inches away from the drive it should be really noticable then. Also, it's not the same "whirring" sound that other noisy drives might make when they spin.

Received my drive Monday non-SE version w/o the ATA card and 1 year war. The warrenty was upgraded as of today to 3 yrs. I haven't opened the drive yet, is there any other differences between the SE and the non-version of the drive??

Peace

I did do that at first and the computer saw it while booting up however when I get to Windows Xp, the harddrive isn't registering. The pci card had 2 IDE slots and each slot can hold 2 IDE drives with the regular cable. I dunno what I should do :brokenheart:

Did you format it first?

That is why you should get Seagate Barracudas IV or V's. Completely silent even at full load. The whirling is just the bearings, even when the drive is at idle the plates are still spinning unless you have windows turn off the HD. I don't really remember, but I think these WD's are rated around 36 dBa, which is damn loud.

2mb cache for normal vs 8mb cache for SE, that's it.

Hi Guys!
Nice to know most of you are getting your drives. But i am still having problems with Dell.

Today i checked on Dell's website and my order does not even show up in the list of ordered stuff (it was there till couple of days ago). But when i enter the order number from the email on another screen it shows that its still "In production". So i decided to call Dell. Spoke to a lady who after putting me on hold for 12 minutes came back and told me that WD has discontinued this drive. Hence i can no longer get it. But offered to sell me the 250GB for the same price (no rebates though). I quickly pointed out that the 200GB drive is really the second to top drive in their IDE ATA line and its hard to believe they would discontinue it. She told me to call WD and talk to them about rebate since she can't do anything anymore. So i called WD and off course the drive isn't discontinued. Now i am Puzzled!! What should i do?? Who should i call?? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me. My order dissapeared from my order status page, although I am sure it was there two weeks ago. The worse thing is I can't find my order confirmation email now.

Hey for the people who didn't check recently heres what is happening. Dell is upgrading the warranties unannounced, you are able to check it at western digitals website.

Check warranty status here

Also, about the ATA card, it's posted on the Dell Forums.

Dell Forums

For those to lazy to link heres the quote.

For those customers who did not receive a controller card but did order the Retail Kit SKU (A0080840) process is:

Customers will need to call Western Digital Customer Support Department at 800-275-4932. They will need to have the drive serial number handy (located on the drive itself). They'll just need to explain that they ordered the drive as part of the Dell promotion, give their name and the drive serial number (which will be checked against a list) and a Controller card will be shipped to them if they are eligible.

How do you know that yours is the non-SE version. I'm pretty sure it is, it's just that it's not the retail lite. WD has lowered all their warranties to 1 year instead of 3, and no controller card. This is for drives manufactured after October 1. But DO NOT WORRY. Dell is upgrading your warranty without telling you and I also posted what to do above to receive your controller card for WD.

Also look at the Model Number of your drive. It should say WD2000JB, if it says that that means it is the SE.

You can, but it won't work. Dell has records of everything, and will only honor up to $200 in MIR's. So the best bet would be to send in the one $200 MIR form that Dell provides.

I installed the ATA PCI Control card and connected to the drive, but when I boot up the computer WinXP (SP1) Home Edition doesn't recognise any new hardware. I also tried the Add Hardware option from Control Panel still nothing. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

I have 3 other drives (40GB, 100GB & 120GB) that are in the machine connected (IDE) to the Motherboard which all work fine.

I keep kicking myself for missing this deal, even though I'm trying to boycott Dell. Then I read a post like this and remember why I absolutely hate them.

Phew.

Just curious, for the people who are not seeing the drives once the OS boots, did you format the drive?

Any consensus on how to deal with the greater than 137 GB? Use the PCI card, use some software patch, make two partitions, or what?
