Mine is on the way. I passed on this when I saw it on the 25th, since the second rebate link was missing, but bought it on the 26th.

Thanks, guys! This forum rocks!

Fortunately for me, in the time it takes me to search for deals, purchase the items, fill out the forms, and make phone calls etc for sheisty price matching, I can make more getting paid to work than the average amount saved per "hot deal".

Plus, I don't feel like a stingy bastard when I do it.. I mean, hot chicks don't go for stingy bastards no matter how much money or cool stuff they have... They are still stingy bastards...

hey, first of all, I thought the drive came with a 3 year warranty?

Secondly, isn't it supposed to come with a PCI card?

Mine came with both, a three year warranty and a pci controller card.

I finally found the packing slip but no where on it does it say the actual purchase date, so I'm going to include the receipt as well.

Well, it seems to me that Dell has a whole lot more headache coming to them on this deal. Everyone who ordered these drives did so with the understanding (wasn't that in the description on Dell's website? Or was it just the description that WAS on WD's site, which they changed earlier today?) that these were three year warranty drives, and came with a pci controller card. We had heard about WD changing the warranty from three years to one year as of October 1st, but that should NOT apply to these drives.

I got two of these drives. One for me, and one to upgrade my mom's Dell. It looks like I may not be able to get her rebate, so I may be returning the drive anyway.
The first one came with a three year warranty and pci card. The second one came with one year warranty and no pci card.

Dell and WD, you better fix this fast!

Well, I don't think of myself as a stingy bastard, but I do know of at least one hot chick who is glad I don't spend a lot (but I get a lot!) for my computer parts! Don't be such a sourpuss.

and no PCI controller card??

did anyone else get this and not the 3 year warrenty + PCI card??

mine was in the plastic package

so all i have to do is send the capacity label from the package and the new $200 rebate from Dell??

Follow the instructions on the rebate. Include a copy of invoice AND packing slip, if you want to be extra-sure. Read back through this thread for more details.

from my chat with the Dell cust support they said to bring up the issue of the warranty being reduced to one year, and PCI card call sales at 800-915-3355 x43784

BTW, that software that comes with it is supposed to make the PCI adapter unnecessary. By changing the boot sector somehow.

If you want to use this HD without an additional card you have to make sure your motherboard has a 48 bit IDE interface. If it has a 32bit IDE interface, it will not detect the whole HD.

PS: Mine shipped!! I thought I missed out, but I ordered on the 26th at 9:30 AM. The people who ordered at 2 or 6 am got theirs much sooner htan I did, like a week or 2 ago. What a difference a few hours makes in the AT hot deals!

I received one of these drives yesterday. No ata100 card, 1 year warranty.

Don't know what Dell is thinking about doing with the "missing" card, but my warranty has now been upgraded to 3 years.

Nope, I did nothing. Well, I did send an e-mail to Dell, but I don't think that is the reason it was upgraded. But who knows?

I have now seen on "obese billfold" in their "deal discussion forum" that others have had the same experience: When the drives were received, the WD website showed them as having only a one year warranty. When I ( and they) check the website now, it shows 3 year warranty.

Actually, as soon as my drive was shipped, I had checked my "certified electronic copy" of my invoice. It showed the s/n of the drive and I checked it then, only to find out it was one year warranty.

Glad that has been fixed. Hopefully it will get fixed for everyone.

Now, I found out that there is a $200 rebate form that just came out for this drive. But it's too late as I already mailed in the two $100 rebates in separate envelopes, one with the UPC and the other with the Capacity label. Will I get my two $100 rebates? "

and Dell's reply was,
"I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please be advised both the $100.00 rebates will be processed even if you have sent them in two different forms."

So, now it's a wait and see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Please check your PM, I have a question for you.
Thanks.

I called sales and they are sending me another "true retail version" and a prepaid mailer to send mine back. I wouldn't have bothered if I knew they were changing the warrantee to three years anyway. But I guess I'll get the PCI card ..... or maybe just get another OEM in retail clothing. we'll see.

Whats the UPC and capacity label? I want to send one of the two in with the updated rebate and my electronic verification. All that came with my hard drive is this flap with two proof of purchase cutouts on the inside, the outside of which is a sticker reading "Special Edition 200 Gigabytes". I have no clue what to send in :<

Since it worth $200, I would send the UPC with it. If you want send both.

I just got mine in today, sent int he rebate this afternoon, installed it in the evening. I'm having problems with it though because I'm using a pci adapter card that I got with my Maxtor 160GB (I ran out of slot on my motherboard too b/c I already have 3 HD's- 2 on on mobo IDE 0, 1 maxtor on pci card and 2 cdroms on mobo IDE 1). Anyone know how I can make my comp see the HD? Btw, I sent in the UPC cutout, I thought that'd be the most proof of purchase thing I could send in.
