Well I kinda take back what I said about this monitor being nice. This is my first lcd monitor and I never really checked out ones in the stores or anything so I really wasn't for sure what I was getting. Well people are right about saying that lcd monitors have problems with games because vice city looks horrible. It's nice if your sitting in one spot or going straight ahead fast, but once you turn at all then the whole image in front of you looks blurred. So i'm not sure what i'm going to do with my old 21" now. Maybe find me a wall bracket that allows swiveling and put my 21" on my desk. Then have 2 going. Planars web site shows a mount like this but havent looked into where to buy one from. Anyways, other than that the image on this lcd don't look to bad. Playing a dvd movie isn't 100% clear during quick movements but then again I don't normally watch dvds on my pc. I'm running at the highest resolution. If I would have paid full price on this then it would be sent back but for the good deal I got, i'll be keeping it.

For vice city (and all games), make sure you're running at maximum lcd resolution. I had HUGE ghosting in GT3 and other games until I did that (I have a Dell 1900fp). It now looks fine.

On my laptop, I have the 15 inch UXGA (1600X1200) screen from Dell. When I ran games on it at 800x600, they chopped up and blurred more even than when I ran it at native resolution of 1600x1200. The game I noticed this on was Jedi Knight, it was strange to see a game perform better at 1600x1200 than at 1024x768 or 800x600 even. The video card on it is the GeForce2go.

Yah it was bad before I turned the res up. I noticed a big change in the dvd movie and vice city after i maxxed out the res, but vice city is still hard on the eyes. I'm seeming to have trouble trying to get the color temp/brightness/contrast set correctly. Is there some graphic or something i can use to help set them? I used something like this a long time ago, think the program came with my video card but not sure. Where do you people have yours set to? I notice that when i'm viewing pictures, the image is washedout (think thats the name for it).

I also notice this lcd makes a hissing sound (or something in that area) when the lcd is switched off. I can put my ear to the top of the lcd and hear it.

Also my video card is a Leadtek winfast a250. Geforce4 TI-4400.

I got my PX171M today. Lucky me, dead pixel in the center of the screen right out of the box. I call to get a replacement and all's going well until I'm told that they no longer stock the monitor and are just selling off stock, so they can't replace it -- only give credit (two separate reps told me the same story, so it's probably true).

Sigh.

Lots of people seem to be getting these with dead pixels. My PL191 has 2 dead pixels.. Poor quality control I guess, hope it gets better!! I also ordered a PX171 and I hope it doesn't have stuck pixels...

I ordered a Canon Powershot S400 and Lexar Jumpdrive 2.0 Pro 256MB usb keychain drive. It originally told me that the estimated shipping date would be July 7 for both products, even though the Lexar said "same day" availablity. Today, I got the lexar, but it was only 15% off, not 15 +15% off. Also, the Canon seems to have dissapeared from my order. I never recieved an email from Dell about not giving me the 2nd 15%, nor did I recieve an email cancelling the Canon. Hopefully I can get both at the price they quoted me at.

Just got my Planar. There is some minor ghosting just watching movies. But tolerable.
The display itself had no dead pixels (at least I don't see any).
But the colors and image quality is great.
(This using DVI on a GeForce4 Ti4200).

Well I just came to the conclusion that vice city is no longer playable using this monitor. I have gotten numerious headaches trying to play that game. While going fast and turning blurs the surrounding so bad that its even hard to dodge other traffic. Not very happy at all since thats the only game I play. Pretty much all this lcd is good for is someone who does nothing with there pc as any motion on it causes the image to look like crap. I'm sure ya all don't care but I felt like complaining anyways so just ignore me if you wish.

I just got my 20" Planar PL201M last night! Woah, it is so pretty and beautiful. No dead pixels (I mean it's got 1600x1200 pixels). Screen is bright and crisp, and it is just a beauty to look at compare to my 14" laptop lcd. I don't know about responseness, because I don't have a decent video card to push acceptable frame rates at 1600x1200 resolution. I don't intend to use this lcd for gaming anyway, just for photo editing and programming. Very good deal for only $650 shipped.

Oooooh you guys are lucky. My PL171M order was cancelled. Maybe its cause I used that extra 5% off coupon.

E-mail from dell:
"We have received and reviewed your order. Unfortunately, the pricing listed
during the check-out process for the software and peripheral items you
ordered was in error and all or a portion of the order cannot be fulfilled.
Each electronic order acknowledgment our Dell.com customers receive states
that the online price is subject to verification. As the order
acknowledgement states, Dell cannot be responsible for typographical or
other errors and reserves the right to cancel any orders resulting from such
errors. Dell values your business and recognizes this inconvenience."

The final price was ~$350 which I don't think is really out of line. Back to shopping I guess.

I got really pissed about Dell canceling my order, especially cause I had ordered it originally before the www bug and the bug only gave me an extra $18, and they canceled BOTH orderers and STILL would not reactivate either order. (Originally the www was 15% off, but I had a 15% off coupon for 15+15. I re-ordered when the web gave the 15+15 and added the 5). I spent almost 5 hours on the phone talking to different people and getting different stories and backtalk...having people transfer and 'accidentally' drop me... I blindly sent an email to michael_dell@dell.com to see what would happen. ... I had a call from Michael Dell's office within 8 hours profusely appologizing and they put it hrough on a new order.

The beauty of the 20" screen is that it displays 1600x1200 (UXGA) resolution, which the 19" LCD does not (1280x1024).

Steve

Good reason.
Now I just need to break the habit of sitting so close to the monitor since I have much more desktop room.

Just the oposite for me. I got the 19" because it has a lower resoltion.

I personaly don't like 1600x1200 and my graphics card has to struggle too hard to support it.

I figure if I HAVE to have more screen realestate I'll get a 2nd 19". another reason to get a thin bezel like the PX191

But one man's eyesore is another man's heaven.

It's all good...

That sux about dell cancelling you peoples orders. I got a 15% (price error), 20% (MY dell email coupon), 5% (stackable coupon I found on the web), for a total of 40% off and had no problems with dell except that my order info on the web site was rather slow to be updated. Every item i've got from dell has been received before the web site actually shows it as being shipped. Go figure. However if any of you play any games and want the 20" lcd then i'ld suggest keeping your money cause theres bad ghosting in games. For the people that say lcd's are excellant and way better than regular monitors, well I bet some of them wouldn't say that if they had a GOOD monitor to compare the lcd with. My hp 21" beats this lcd in many ways (games, movies, pictures, etc..). I decided to run dual displays and now that is nice! My desk was just big enough for both monitors and my computer tower.
