Sweet deal, thanks! I picked up the NEC 1760V 17" LCD for $350 shipped. Pretty solid deal if you want a 16ms response time display like the PX171M but don't want DVI or built-in speakers.

$708.69 for a monitor... the last two dual cpu servers didn't cost me that much. can't justify it.

I did get a few 5% off coupons though. If anyone has problems signing up for them, send me an email at aaron at aer0 dot com.

I never buy things from Dell Small Business. Too much tax to pay.
Yeah.. Tax kills it for me. If there was something that I really needed, I might jump on it, but as it stands, I don't. Oh well..

Come on fellas! Help me out here. Should I get the Planar PL191-M or the Viewsonic VG900b? I know that the Planar has DVI but the Viewsonic has a better contrast ration. The price difference is only $10 more for the Planar. ($534 with tax for the VS and $544 for the Planar.) I'm leaning towards the Planar because of the DVI and the super thin bezel. I ordered both and need to cancel one.

Come on! Weigh in on this choice.

OMG. 15% off more than covers the tax anywhere. Add another 15%, then a 5% and it's STILL not good enough? Geez....

I was rassling with the same question and ended up ordering the Planar PX191

For some reason I figured might as well get the latest and greatest since monitors last me 3 to 7 years.

I would look at the dead pixel policy and waranty policy of both companies

Planar's is very good 0 dead pixels and 3 dead "sub pixels"

Same story here. I can't even log in to check my order status, although I was able to this morning.

Let's hope that these orders go through.

It's dead deal now.

Don't worry. LCD price will go down further.

I see eventually price of LCD will be lower than CRT because
production cost is lower.

The actual production cost is lower but the mortality rate is higher. This is why the price is so high.

Its still working for me. I have another monitor ready (in checkout) to pay for. $404.88 for the PX171M delivered.

I received the 5% coupon in an email, and just used the link on the email to Dell. Then searched for PX171M and was able to check out.

I think you just need to keep playing with the site. It gives very inconsistent results. Anyway... it is not dead yet.

Would any of the projectors Dell sells work well in a home theatre system? Thinking about picking one up.

Still works guys... just went ahead and ordered the Dell 3200MP projector.

Here's an article comparing the two (and several other 20-inch LCDs as well):

article link

The only major difference I can see is that the 2000FP has S-video input in addition to analog and DVI, whereas the 201M only has analog and DVI.

All the tech specs are quite similar. The 201M actually has a better image resolution ratio of 1:500 vs. 1:300 for the 2000FP. But this is just on paper. Have to look at the displays in real life to see if this translates into a real difference in resolution.

Still working.

I placed an order a couple hours ago for the monitor. Seems like a great deal. Got my order confirmation
Now I'm just contemplating if it might have been better to go for two 19" Planars instead. for ~$230 more...
but I suppose 20" of space should be more than enough for most apps.

Here's hoping there will be no dead pixels.

The beauty of the 20" screen is that it displays 1600x1200 (UXGA) resolution, which the 19" LCD does not (1280x1024).

Good reason.
Now I just need to break the habit of sitting so close to the monitor since I have much more desktop room.
