Price $1347 - $100 (SB discount for all Inspiron 5100) - $124.70 (10% off coupon from a nice guy at ObeseMoneyHolder.com ) - $50 MIR (for 5100) = $1072.30 + tax and free shipping.

This 5100 adds the 15" screen and 32mb ati radeon mobility.

Did some more research: the 5100 has 2 usb 2.0 ports, firewire, svideo out, and an integrated wireless antenna (whether you buy the wireless card or not)...

It does weigh a bit on the heavy side and also has only one fixed optical drive.

Cnet review here

I got almost the same setup as nightwatch. but bought the 16mb usb key instead instead of 256mb ddr to push it up to 1116. They sell the 256mb ddr at S & P for 30 with the auto 25% off for the dell upgrade. So for basically the same price I got a usb key and 384mb of ddr.

so, this isn't a mobile processor? it's gonna get real hot then. my p4 1.8-m gets hot as it is.

$100 coupon is now replaced with $50?

Does anyone have the original $100 coupon?

Skinny Purse has the $100 coupon posted on their thread, it worked fine! Save an extra $50 and replace the current coupon. Just ordered, went perfect.

I'm confused about these new models.

Which new models are supposed to replace which older models?

Well, ive decided I'll hold off on a notebook until the M10 chip is out, Dell apparently slated to start selling those in May... but a coworker bought up an interesting point. He mentioned that in the past, he has been able to remove the office suite alltogether to save some more cash? You have to pick one of the 4 online. so obviously you would have to phone order to do this, but it seems like it might work. Anyone have any experience with this one ?

Could someone please let me know the name/address/subject line of Dell % off coupons? I have been signed up for those deals for quite some time but never see anything, I am thinking I need to adjust some spam filters, so if someone could PM me that address I'd appeciate it.

There is a $200 rebate for fixed configurations on this laptop. Does anyone have an idea on this? This will make the deal unbeatable in Dell Home if you just get their basic config and use this rebate.

I've got a kind of funny story to tell everyone (it has to do with Dell and this deal)...

A Dell representative hung up on me!

Yea.... I never thought that was possible from Dell... anyway, the guy got pissed and hung up on me when he could not configure the system with the price that I was coming up with online.

Here's my letter to Dell:
I have a major complaint about one of your sales reps.
Name: CHRISTOPHER xxxxxx
Phone: 1-800-879-3355 x xxxx
Email: xxxxxxx@dell.com

I called and order a Dell Inspiron 1100 from Chris. The final price he gave me was $1222.01. When I received the confirmation email, I realized he had me down for 2nd day air when I did not request it. This added $29.00 to my order. If he would have left it to the regular ground shipping it would have been FREE shipping (which most people want, UNLESS they specify they want shipping faster). I then proceeded to go online and customize the same exact system Chris did (I remember it being cheaper online because I do extensive research before I buy)

If I subtract shipping my total would have been $1193.01 with Chris.

I customized my system, online at a price that was around $50.00 cheaper than what he had priced me (that is with the shipping taken off Chris' quote, if I would not have caught the shipping costs, Chris would have over charged me close to $80.00). So, I called Chris back and told him I found it cheaper online and that I did not want 2nd day delivery. He spent about 7 minutes trying to configure the system that I had customized online and could only get it down to $1207.45. I again told him that I could get this system cheaper by going online. Up to this point, I was fine with Chris' attitude.

After not beign able to get my price, Chris then told me something along the lines of, "I'm not sure what your looking at, but, your hassling me over $40 dollars?" And I said "Yes, I am". I told him simply, with the same tone of voice I had been talking to him, "well do you want me to just order online and you can cancel my order?". And Chris said "yes, why don't you do that, and thanks for wasting my time today" and then hung up on me. (You can pull out the recorded conversation if you would like to verify)

This is completely ridiculous. I have never had someone actually hang up on me or question my right to get a computer system to the correct price. I thought Dell's customer service was the greatest, and I have recommended you to many people just for that fact. However, I will seriously reconsider my next order with Dell and my comments to my customers about Dell will always include this story.
However, I do not place all the blame on Chris. The Dell online shopping needs to be shaped up. I have spent over 4 hours (after buying two laptops) on Dell's website, trying to customize my systems. There is definitely a problem in the system if I can configure a computer with the same exact specifications as your customer service rep and we both come out with different prices. I hope to receive a response.

Has anyone had this kind of experience with Dell?

Well I received mine yesterday 15" monitor, 256mb, 2.4ghz p4, dvd, cdrw, 30gb hd etc... 996.xx including tax -100mir.

It's a nice lil rig it doesn't get real hot (like ze1210) it is nice and fast.

It does have the (non) extremae graphics but it does well for a lappy.

The funny thing is I never received a confirmation so I was kinda worried....
