Dell Inspiron 1150 Power problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 that worked fine for about a year. Then my battery started losing charge even though the power cable was plugged in. Now, the battery seems to be dead and my laptop doesn't seem to receive power from the power cable. The light on the power cord is on (there's a green light on the flat part) and the light on the laptop indicating the power cord is plugged in is on. When i try to put on the laptop, the lights on the front panel blink rapidly and nothing, then the light for the power comes back on but still nothing. Sometimes the laptop will power on but it inevitably shuts down. Is this a known problem? Is this a problem with my MB or power connector? any help on this?
Ps I've already contacted Dell and i am awaiting their response

I have the same problem with my dell 300m.

try a new battery or power supply

or

get the motherboard replaced.

nope
doesnt work much at all
if i leave the battery in and the power cord in for a couple hours, i can get a couple minutes out of it (if i'm lucky, lately its dropped to about just enough time for the XP loading screen or barely finished booting)
other than that, it doesnt start at all

a new battery should work. this battery is dead as far as i can tell
my problem is that it should work with the power cord in (and the battery should charge too)

recently read online that dell inspirons had some fault design where the piece connecting the power outlet to the MB would disconnect after some usage. anyone knows how true this is?

Try taking out the battery and then connecting AC to it.
Let us know what happens
