It's faster than your 300m. In fact, it's as fast as my Compaq X1000, which I bought two years ago with a 1.3GHz Pentium M (Banias), and that machine still does EVERYTHING I ask of it. Office/Productivity/Photoshop/Web Development, etc, handles it without a problem.

1.3GHz Celeron M minus SpeedStep = 1.3GHz Pentium M Banias

Plenty fast for a majority of users.

Is the memory upgradeable post-purchase? I see a note saying one dimm slot is user accessable. Is that one empty, or does it have the 256MB chip? How about the wireless PC card, is that something you could add in yourself?

It has a PC Card slot, so you can add any Wireless PC Card adapter you want. From the factory, it comes with one DIMM installed under the keyboard. The user accessible one on the bottom is empty.

Actually it wasn't a link for it's price, it was a link that provided upgradeability info on the laptop : )

i have the dell 2650, w 1.6ghz celeron + 512mb ram... and it's plenty fast for non "hi-tech" gaming.

I even run vmware on it, and virtual machines run adequately fast for non-gaming purposes.
