why? why for the luv of god does dell not make 15" screen, I mean.....C'mon
even vpr's of this world have a 15.2" widescreens now!!!!

so close to buying a lappy, but there's always something........

btw, how much does a 4150 weigh ? anyone knows?

geez people in the hotdeals forum whine alot and don't bother to look around, dell does make 15" lcd screens for lappies, check the OTHER models however THIS model only has a 14" screen, hence it is a mere $594

$615.57 + TAX for me using the 2 different 15% OFF coupons.
(I added the DVD drive and 512 RAM.)
So all I'll need to buy is a wireless card to slide into the slot, right??

if the 4150 or the 2650 had 15" screens, no one would buy an 8200. i'm pretty sure thtas the reason.

its not really that big a difference, i've has 15" and 14" screens, and well the dot pitch is smaller on 14" so it actually looks more fine.

Comes to $651+TAX with the WIFI card added for $49. Don't need the CDRW, I burn CD's with my desktop DELL!
I can find the info, anyone know how many (if any) USB ports this thing has?! I'll want to take it on vacation to download photos into!

geoffkin - I agree, I would never get a CD-RW on a laptop since I already have a fast and cheap burner on my desktop.

But I do hope you didn't go cheap and at least got a DVD-ROM???

Regarding the USB ports, here are the tech specs.

I stated above that my price included the DVD drive and 512 RAM !!
Thanks for the SPECS Rossman! COOL, it has 2 USB slots.
What's going to be the best way to transfer large files between my desktop and laptop? I've never had a laptop before! I'm guessing use my camera's 256 MB Compact Flash and just move my USB 6 in 1 reader from one computer to the other??

Your Dell i2650C should come with an Ethernet port and you're going to have WiFi as well.

Just move the files over the network or if you have a CAT5 cable just plug your laptop's Ethernet post into your desktop's NIC and do it directly between the two.

They do make both the 4150 and 2650 series with 15" screens. They are more expensive with the 15" screens and that defeats the purpose of buying a cheap laptop. By the time you configure the 2650 with a 15" screen and other goodies, the price is close to that of the better 8200 so that is why people still buy the 8200. The 2650 is a low end laptop and is priced accordingly.

I got the $8200 loaded for $1057 shipped, I think its worth the extra $$$

There seems to be a lot of quibbles w/ the 2650C, but hey for that price you really can't complain

I don't have a problem with Best Buy.. they've always been cool with me.

That Compaq 1500T looks sweet. I don't think I ever saw that deal. How much was it going for ?

The great Staples/HP/Compaq laptop sale of September 2002, here is the Hot Deals thread.

I believe there was a $300 off coupon, $30 off, $50 off, Staples $100 MIR, Compaq $100 MIR, FREE $89 luggage, FREE SHIPPING ($75 savings) AND FREE WiFi adapter ... paid $800something it retailed for around $1400.

Don't forget that if you're connecting two systems directly (no hub or switch in between) that it needs to be a crossover cable instead of a regular cat-5.

I also agree with a few of the others as far as not needing cd-rw on a laptop. I've never been at the park with my laptop and thought "Gee, I really wish I could bust out a copy of Diablo II for that stranger over there!"

Besides, I can always stash a USB cd-rw in the car for less than that cd-rw upgrade price.

Thank you for the clarification, I always forget that it's called a crossover cable. That is in my opinion the easiest, fastest and most direct method of transfer.

Also you're right about the CD-RW, you don't need a friggin' CD-RW in a laptop unless it's your main machine or you really do burn A LOT of CD's. External USB/FireWire CD-RW's can be had for anywhere from $40-$80 which work great if you need a CD-RW every now and then.

Mine is still in Pre Production estimated delivery date March 27th. I have it fully loaded with the CDRW/DVD combo drive and 512 Megs of Ram and it came in at under $700.00 delivered so I guess I can wait on it, sad thing is by that time they may have an even better deal considering they don't even list the 2650C on their site anymore.
