Good deal, but the 600M has rather poor build quality (depending on one's definition of poor).

Do you have a link? I can't seem to find it on Dell Home with $500. I also went to your site dealwrap.com and link to Dell home but no $500 off.

The deal is dead. Dell has taken the $500 discount off.

The $350 off $1199 Inspiron coupon is still working, but it'll make the price to $949 + $29 handling fee.

I have one and I have no idea why you say this.

I love my 600m

At my last job they used D600 as the coperate standard and they were fine

I gave mine to my sister; a lot of people on AT forums call the 600M a POS. For example, mine had a mainboard swap due to a Bluetooth option that never ever worked in the first place. Just recently, I was sent a replacement keyboard because a couple keys had popped off. The display hinge is mediocre at best.

I'm pretty sure the Latitude D600 is not as bad as the Inspiron 600M. Neither is a Thinkpad T. Besides it being a great value, I'm pretty certain I would not buy another one.

I am looking at the outlet store for a refurb. What model is the best in terms of build quality?

I'll second that. Actually, several Dells I've seen all seem to have horrible hinges. Keyboard on this thing also isn't that great.

Btw, the 600m's suck in terms of keyboard. They also get pretty hot down there. Not like warm hot, but HOT HOT.

I didn't have that problem with mine.

I'm typing this on my 600M, which I have had for more or less exactly one year. I bought it when they had one of those one-day $750-off coupons. Mine is very close to the specs in the named computer, and it cost a bit less.

This is a decent PC. It is rather flimsy, and I don't have the sense it will last forever. It was inexpensive and for the most part I've been happy with it, but the whole thing feels a little too flexible and somewhat insubstantial. The bottom line is that I'm pleased with it for the money, but frankly I wish I'd spent a bit more and invested in an IBM T42.

Anything but the 600m.

Buy a Latitude D6xx if you can but that's Dell SB.

The inspiron line is of poor build quality too. The old Lattitudes were much better than todays cheap mass produced POS. I can not speak for the new Latitudes since I have not used or seen one that is newer than 4 years old.

The latitiude 5xx, 6xx, and 8xx all will fit the bill for me. I suppose I should opt for the 5xx for portability.

Do not expect to play games on the latitiude, they are strictly buisness machines. Lattitude is a notebook designed for someone who is always traveling, so they are a bit tougher than standard Inspirons with better battery life and lighter weight (depending on model)

Inspiron = For use around the home
Latitude = For use on the road, in the air, and long stays away from home.

For extended excursions think toughbook from panasonic. Latitude falls between toughbook and Inspiron.
