Get a core duo, get the x1400, and I would definitely get the WSXGA+ screen. Don't upgrade the RAM. You can get 2GB 667 for $100.

IMO, the WSXGA+ is a bit overkill. I'd definitely recommend the WXGA+ for $50, though.

Man, I bought a way crappier laptop two days ago (with the 30% email coupon) for $100 less, with the following downgrades:

512mb ddr2
24x cd-rw/dvd
80gb hdd
onboard graphics

I guess I got sucked in by the coupon

If I were in the market for a 15.4" I would have been all over that.

Great!
I ordered mine (with a few select upgrades) last weekend. The original delivery date was June 7. I got an email today, and it should be here the middle of next week.

Thanks OP!

Why are the prices or component selection different if you go directly to the dell website? is it some coupon code or something in the URL?

FYI, the 2GB systems come with a 100GB 5400rpm drive compared to the 160GB 5400rpm drive. It's $70 more to upgrade to the 160GB, which would make the 2GB system $120 more than the 1GB. If you're fine with the 100GB hard drive, then it's a moot point.

it's 120, not 100

Beware! If you buy this you could turn into a Dell Zombie. Dell Zombies cruise the web looking for deals on computer components. When they find one they pummel it to death with the dreaded question...

Will this work with my Dell?

Core DUO T2350 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) is $60 cheaper than Core 2 Duo T5300 (2MB Cache/1.73GHz/533MHz FSB). Given the specs, i wouldn't expect the Core 2 to be much faster, and i'm not easily finding relevant comparisons. Any info on differences and opinions on the smarter buy?

I would also consider resale value. For $100 more I wouldn't do it but for $60 more, it's worth it.
