First deal post. Been looking for a laptop for while now. Not sure if I want to spend the money but having hard time not hitting the order button. What do you guys think? Also, would it be worth it sticking with the 667mhz memory or going with the step down?

that is almost exactly what I bought, except I got 2 9 cell bats for the same cost. My only regret is that I got the 1705. It is too damn big. I should have got the 15 or 14 instead.

Even 15.4" is pretty big.

If you're not a gamer or power user, I think 14.1" WXGA is the ideal size.

If you don't have to lug it around too much, a 15.4 is a great size!

Too bad it is difficult to get a semi powerful video card in that size...

Where is the 7600GS/x1650xt's for our portable laptops? I can't be the only one that likes to play games on my laptop yet wants to be actually be able to use it as a laptop too!

The 64 meg 9000 in my 600m was once at least serviceable, but not anymore.

Yeah, seems you either buy a monster behemoth laptop to get a decent video card in it, or you're stuck with lesser 3D graphics. I can't imagine why they don't make the 7900 available in the 15.4 inch E1505, except that they need a reasont o charge more for the E1705.

Hah, I've noticed that myself. I'm trying to keep my budget just a tad bit lower then what the OP posted, although that is a good deal.

I'm waiting for the Core 2 Duo option. I think my brother would love that exact laptop. Good deal.

It is a Core Duo. That is why I really want to get it. I need it for studying but also want to replace my desktop for playing Day of Defeat.

I suggest checking http://outlet.dell.com before you buy. If you're in the market for a Dell, you can save a pretty good amount of money by buying a fully-warranted refurb.

I picked up a fully loaded dual 2GHz 6400/E1505 for not much more than you're planning on paying.

Keep in mind that they have several tiers of "refurbished" laptops on their site: Some are scratch & dent, some are used, and others were made to order but not actually "used". A different level of discount is applied to each of these tiers.

The in-stock list changes thoughout the day & night. Check in the late night/early morning hours if you're looking for a specific configuration. Once you add something to your cart, I think they give you 15 minutes to complete the transaction before the item is returned to stock.

Good luck!

So true. If your a college student like me who doesnt game anymore and have an hour lunch break at school, a 14 is nearly perfect. A 8/9 cell batt isnt always a must. Even my dad's compaq which has 6 cells rated at 3 hours lasts 5 hours of web browsing and light usage.
