so you just call Dell up and they'll transfer you to a 'return specialist'? I'd like to get something also...and I might actually return my laptop too...
Is it pretty much automatic that once you mention you want to return the laptop, they'll offer you something?

i seriously doubt that they will automatically give you something free when you say you wanna return it... otherwise it'd be wayyy too easy to abuse this

umm why not ... they don't want to take ur notebook back, so they try to BRIBE you to keep it
just tell them dell screw up ur order, and some change something without ur permission, then
they would just want u to keep it with some goodies

I called today to complain about the bad pixels to see if I could return it under the 30-day satisfaction guarantee policy. I figure they may offer me something in return to have me keep it. I was surprised when the return specialist just offered me another notebook in return for that one. That was my main complaint so rather than take advantage of them and hope they offer me a discount or some other free part, I took their offer of a replacement notebook. Said it would take 3-5 days to build it. I asked if it was going to be a refurbished system and she said no and that they would ship it next day too for an even swap even though I had to give my credit card number to secure it.

I called today and they offered me 50 bucks. I took it, because I dont have the laptop anymore.
So I didn't have the intention on returning the laptop. But calling them saved me another 50.

Sorry for bumping this thread again...but is there anybody out there who has tried to get more than $100 when they mentioned to Dell that they want to return their notebook? Is $100 the max. you can get? Today is the last day I can return my system and I'd like to know if I can push it... or I'd really have to return the system...

I tried to return an inspiron 8100 and they offered me $100. I asked for more and they offered $150. I took that.

i tried to ask for more and the guy told me something about my computer's price was only 1000+ and blah blah blah, so he could only give me $100. Oh well...I guess it's better than nothing. He also gave me 7 more days to think about returning...

Just curious about how it works. Did you just call customer service and try this "deal" without any problem or defect of the machine?
Any tips for making this work?

Anyone who combine this with their price protection policy (if you find price drop, they will match it within 30days from the invoice date)?
Or, do I have to choose either one of the two (return deal, or price match)?

i just called them up, got hold of someone and told them I want to return the laptop. They asked me why and I told them I was not happy with it. Then I was transferred to a 'return specialist'. Again I told her the reason why I want to return the system and then she offered me either $100 or a HP digital camera to keep my laptop...

do you see a huge difference going to 256? or should I just jump to >256, like 512?
