TeMpT, the link for the Inspiron 4100 256MB SODIMM you posted is for a PC100 module. The Inspiron that this thread refers to has a 133MHz FSB. You might have some trouble using these chips in this laptop.

<< DEAL JUST GOT HOTTER!!!!

OK, I bought the laptop with P3 1G, 14", NV 32M, 20G HD, Free DVD, and the 1 yr + CompleteCare deal for

$1218
- 25 coupon
+ 35 shipping
----------------
$1228

which wasn't anything special....BUT...

because of the free shipping promo, I now have

$1228
- 35 Free Shipping
-----------------------------
$1193

Then I found out completecare is not available in 14 states, including CA...AND THE REP left me a message to tell me that he will have to DEDUCT $99 since it is not available. I acted all dumb and said what am I missing. He told me it is more like insurance and that I need to have my homeowner insurance cover it instead.

Thus the final price:

$1193
- 99 No CompleteCare, but still 1 year waranty
------------------------------
$1094

I am not trying to brag and moan, but ppl...CALL YOUR REP and ASK about the completecare thing. I accidentally made two orders and the rep for the other order didn't even try. So make sure YOU CALL AND ASK!!!!!!!!!!!1
>>

I got the three year for $20 bucks extra instead.

How do you know that they are not PC100?

Well, per their description, it is for Inspiron 4100, which is PC133....maybe I should call and check....

Damn....Dell's Tech support line takes FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
....
still waiting...
and also, my order is too far into the game to ask for the $20 upgrade to 3 yr

EDIT
Long story short, Tech Support said go with SODIMM,256MB,133Mhz,32X64,8K,144pin which is $50.95 less discount....so I guess it is only a couple of dollars cheaper than Crucial....Guess I am going with the Crucial instead.

Just got a hold of my account rep. They are aware of the pricing error. Not sure how much longer this deal will last. I'm trying to upgrade the screen from XGA to SXGA for $70 more and then removing the Completecare warranty since it's no good in California. Odz, how did you get the 3 year warranty for an extra $20?

He got the $20 for 3 year assuming he didn't drop the completecare package.
Once your order is being processed, you will be assigned a person. You will get an email telling you who it is.

How are you changing to SXGA without "repairing" their price error?

Just a note... don't go through the "Featured Notebook link", as it won't let you select the GeForce|| and you won't be able to get the deal.

Interestingly enough, I selected second day, and that was lost in between the time i submitted the order 2 days ago, and today when it magically showed up in their system.

They wouldn't let me remove CC, even though i live in CA. Said they would have to redo the order, and then noted that the same config came out 300$ more. They also couldn't change the shipping option. BS! They told me I would need to replace the whole order to get different shipping!

For everyone interested in a port replicator, 25% off expires tonight + free shipping + coupon. Still a rip-off imo.

Has anybody even got as far as getting a shipping notice?
Since this was a pricing error, when you call in and try to make changes, doesn't that negate whatever price you had and bring the final price back to the original level? Just wondering...

I order Sat. night and just got my confirmation a few minutes ago when I checked my email.

This deal got even hotter for me!!

Dell took off $99 since part of the warrenty didn't apply to me like those above mentioned and took off $35 for free shipping, which started a few days after I ordered.

Grand Total: $965 !!!!!
HOT HOT HOT

Dang! Finally paid off for wasting all this time holding out! Hope others got on this deal!

couponlady: go to dell.com, click home and home office. put the following code at the field below where it says "E-Value Code" on the top left corner:
6V944-41NVCD

Then follow Statetech's instruction closely, as seen at the top of this thread. The laptop in question is a Inspiron 4100, not 4000.
You can opt for a bigger HD, the better battery, and the free dvd or cd-rw, will come out to around 1100-1200 depending on your options.

Then there's another $25 coupon mentioned in this thread...Good luck!

Order Inspiron 4100 (not 4000), select the CPU of your choice, make sure you pic XGA 14" for screen. Then make sure you order the 1yr+Complete Care Warranty.

All the other parts are flexible...so drop as many as you like.

OT: If placing an order with Dell Small Business and you save your cart, which phone number and options do you dial to get them to "adjust" your order before going to check out?

i dunno if small business is the way to go. And I think they are closed now. Lastly, I made my -99 warranty change AFTER I submitted my order.

Thanks TeMpT but I'm ordering a Dell Dimension 4300S desktop for my wife not this laptop. I'm going through Small Business since the special is a free Palm m105 PDA and free shipping which beats the Home Office special. Since I live in Oregon there is zero sales tax regardless of where I order from.

Those of you who have called Dell Small Business to have your order "adjusted", what number did you dial and what options did you press?

Thanks.

RossMAN,

just some info that might help clear things up. for myself, I didn't buy from small business. And the reduction in price due to the warrenty issue was made by Dell, on their own! Can you believe that?!

Does this offer and clarification? Probably not

BTW, I just did the same customization over at Small Business and the laptop is slightly more. Hadn't yet applied tax though.

With respect to the CompleteCare warranty, if you don't get the $99 adjustment like some others have stated, you still may be able to get a refund on the warranty according to the CompleteCare Services Contract found here. There is a cancellation clause that states that you can get a complete refund of the warranty cost within 30 days of the start of the warranty.

Does anyone know the latency of the ram Dell puts in these Inspiron 4100?

I'll be upgrading via Crucial but their 512mb is CAS3, sigh.

Thanks for the letting us know about the great deal, Statetech.

I was thinking about calling to upgrade to the Sxga, but I looked at the difference on a couple lappies at work, and I don't think Sxga is $70 better than xga.
I decided to go for the 3 year warranty because it will most likely pay for itself if anything breaks, plus just the peace of mind.
Rossman I have the number for e-sales which is where you need call to adjust your order after it is placed, but it is at work so I can't post it till the morrow.
Also, does anyone know how good the free nylon carrying case is? I am considering ordering another one from ebags.com because they have some pretty good deals.
Thanks
