I suppose if you really needed a cheap laptop this would be a good deal.
But consider this:
Dell Inspiron 8100 (practically the same size and weight as the 2500)
866MHz. Pentium III-M procesor
14.1" SXGA+ screen with 16MB nVidia GeForce2 Go graphics
128 MB PC133 SDRAM
20 GB hard drive
24X CD-ROM
56K modem and 10/100 ethernet built-in
FireWire, digital audio (S/PDIF) and S-Video out built-in
Total: $1069
Now, that's $270 for a much faster procesor, a much better screen (14.1" SXGA+ vs. 12.1" SVGA), built-in ethernet, FireWire, digital audio, you get the idea.
Plus the difference between the Intel built-in graphics (or even the optional 4MB card) and the GeForce2 Go will be night and day if you plan to do anything
even remotely three-dimensional on your laptop.
So if you really need to save money, then by all means get the featured 2500. I'm sure it's a fine machine for occasional use. But for mainstream users, the
Inspiron 8100 and 4100 series may be worth a look.
