> but in relating to this thread...yeah their are sales, just signup for the small business catalog and you'll get codes for them from time to time
Like Drakkon said, sign up for the small business catalog, BUT also get on the small business mailing list. It's rare but they'll have 25% off one-time use coupons once in a blue moon.
ALSO if you are a student or work at a participating company go to the EPP site and sign up for their newsletter.
Keep an eye on this sites hot deal forum and the other hot deal sites like t bargains chubby wallet and for dell, esp g!o!t!a!p!e!x
Some of the information related above deals with older products and is largely irrelevant. Like any company dell goes through good and bad series. In the past dell did claim that the lattitude series used older more stable hardware for business but with the latest sonoma refresh the inspirons and lattitude seem to be pretty much on the same footing. The C800/600 series had some problems but I used both for a couple of years and they were OK. The latest D810, D610, M70 are all really decent laptops but you get what you pay for. They are no slower than the same-size inspirons, and in some cases faster. For example in the 15.4" format the inspiron 6000 only comes with the ATI x300 while the lattitude D810 can be had with the x600.
There is no lattitude counterpart for the humongoid 17" laptops so in that respect, the top (in weight) inspiron ARE faster than the lattitude.
While the lattitudes do not give you a speed edge and may/maynot be sturdier they do have have very nice docking station options, something absent from the Inspiron line. If you want to do dual external monitors in a 14 or 15" laptop with the inspirons you are dead in the water, but the lattitude docking station give you dual monitor and in the case of the bigger docking station even a PCI port for expansion.....
With several of the lattitudes you get a smartcard reader and gigabit ethernet. Nice features but useless for many home users.
Finally lattitude in theory will give you better/US based support. I say in theory because with the D800 I used for the last 2 years, the C800/600 I used before that and now my M70, I have yet to have a reason to call dell support.
