if all goes well, i will be upgrading my current 2x 19" samsung 955df's to a pair of dell lcds. what i can't decide is which model i would like to get. from what i've heard, the 1900FP has problems with slight ghosting, while the 1800 and 2000 are a bit better in that department. i've also read that they all have excellent picture/color quality. they will be used for a general purpose monitor, a bit of gaming (mmorpg and fps mainly), graphic work (photoshop/ir, flash/dw/director) and of course the typical ie, trillian, word, excel, database junk, ect.

in order of most important specs:
1. ghosting
2. color/brightness, close second with ghosting
3. size, got to have lot of desktop space =)
4. cost

i plan on waiting till the next great dell lcd deal before i buy these.

what are your opinions on these 3 lcds?

edit: i have a dual dvi gf4 ti4600, so dvi support is very important

if it were single i would definitely say 2000FP

1900 FP has ghosting issue though im not sure if this is still a problem

the 1800 has a thin bezel which is very important for dual screen gaming / watching movies though its not a major issue if you plan on just using it for more desktop real estate

i voted 2000 FP

the 1800FP also uses BGR rather than RGB which can also cause some problems if you are using the VGA cable instead of DVI

picturewise i believe they are quite similar

I love my 1800 and I heard it and the 2000FP use the same screen. Ghosting is nonexistant on my 1800 and I love the color, but if I could I would have the 2000FP so I voted for that.

I have a 2000FP, and while I have never had a problem with ghosting, I've had a difficult time getting the color just right. I have it paired with an 18" Planar, and the Planar is brighter and more vibrant no matter what I do to the Dell. And I never had to calibrate that one, but I've spent hours with the Dell. Just as a heads up that you might want to actually see one first, especially if you're going to be using it for graphic work.

well, i've owned a few dells before.. so i'm fairly confident that i will be pleased by any of them. that and i've only seen an 1800fp irl before.. everyone in my area seems to be stuck on the whole "CRT's > LCD's" thing.

for those of you that own the 2000FP... was it actually worth the extra bucks?

I have the 1900FP and ghosting is a small issue, but nothing to worry about. I do a ton of gaming and I love this monitor.

i have all 3 type, at least 1 of each unit, including the samsung 191t which is the 1900fp..

I love the 2000fp and 1800fp is second only because it's only 18" , hate the 1900fp/samsung units.

The color is pretty good. You have 2 choices: 6500 or 9300. The colors are very vibrant.

I'm playing bf1942, UT2K3, Vietcong, Thief (series), Undying, Mafia, Medal of Honor, etc... I do notice a little bit of blurring but it's nothing to worry about. And I'm in analog mode. I'm sure if I went digital (which I plan to do very soon) any blurring will dissapear.

Check out dell's website. They are running specials on their LCD monitors all the time.

good luck.

i play cs on my 2000fp, actually I only play cs.. and cs in window mode.. so 1024x768 in a 1600x1200 display. I dont notice ghost like how I notice it on 1900, I bearly notice ghost in 1800..

I paid 775 ish for my 2000 fp, dell deals varies some times its 20% off, 15%, sometimes the 1800fp is 449 + tax.. etc..
u get the point..

paid $760 for mine

i think the cheapest ever deal was 740 or 750 shipped

but you have to add tax if you get it from small business

unless you live in a tax free state like delaware

I used a Cleartype configurator a couple days ago on my 1800FP. It was on the Microsoft website and it let me choose BGR for the config.

It worked well.

If it's only 1, then certainly a 2000fp, but for a dual setup, the large bezel on the 2000fp might but you. Both the 1800fp and 1900fp have a much smaller bezel and would sit next to eachother much more nicely.

I'm buying a 2000fp as soon as it goes on sale for < 800, but if I was buying dual, I'd probably buy two 1800fps.

well, if you can afford one 2kFP, y not get 2 1.8kFp's?

only a 200$ difference, and yet a 16" difference

Largely WAF (Wife Approval Factor) - "you don't need TWO monitors" - but also, $200 difference, plus another $200 or so to get a dual DVI card.

Anyone know who makes the panel on the Dell 1800FP? LG or Samsung?

I'm trying to decide between the NEC 1860NX, the LG L1810B and the Dell 1800FP.

The cheapest of the lot is the LG, but there's not a lot in it between the three. The LG does come with a DVI cable
though.

Don't play much FPS, but a lot of blurring on web documents and word files might be irritating.

just a quick comment on the brightness/contrast of the 1800fp.. I recently acquired one and run it in analogue mode (soon to be upgraded). Personally in my decently lit room, I run the brightness at abtou 30 out of 100, as the brightness can go so high that it actually hurts my eyes (yes I calabrated the monitor and run it with contrast at 100)
