Dell LCD's - Warranty Transferrable?

Hey Everyone,

A contact of mine has recently purchased a Dell 2005fpw LCD monitor on ebay. The ebay seller told him that it came with a warranty and that it would be transferred over. However, I believe I have heard that Dell monitors ARE NOT TRANSFERRABLE, only their desktop computers and laptops are.

Can anyone verify this information? If so, where in the terms and agreements does it say that monitors are not transferrable?

Nope.

Dell LCD's are considered E&A (Electronics and Accessories).

It's like buying a mouse, the warranty is NOT TRANSFERRABLE regardless of what the eBay auction says.

I am currently looking in the documentation of the 2005fpw and it doesnt say anything concerning this topic. This is what I am looking at:

I told my contact that the warranty isnt transferrable and he did it anyway. With all the Hot Deals with the Dell LCD's, I have no idea why anyone would purchase one through ebay anyway. Guess they dont know Thanks

Please send your contact this link which is straight from a Dell employee. If their monitor craps out they are at the MERCY of the eBay seller for any warranty assistance.

What BS, of course there is warranty for 3 years wether you gave it to someone, moved, changed your name, lost the receipt or whatever. There is a serial number and they can look it up using that. Go read the dell forums again and see that people that got their monitors not directly from dell still get warranty service, all they need is to explain it to CSR on the phone.

Yup, call tech support, tell them you bought the monitor seperately, they'll ask for the serial number on the monitor. That serial number contains the manufactured date of the monitor, and they will honor the 3 year warranty from that date.

what phone number(s) have people had success with concerning this? One of my customers that I build a system for that also purchased a 2005fpw from me needs this done. Their 2005fpw has ate the dust and they need to send it back to dell.

I called Dell and they said otherwise. You CAN TRANSFER them.

I bought mine on ebay and have used the warranty to get new ones.

if its one of your clients can you do the calling? or is it just an ebay 'client'? in which case they could be screwed

New and refurbished Product that you purchase directly from Dell? (and not a third party) you may return or exchange only in accordance with Dell?'s return policy in effect on the date of the invoice or acknowledgement.

Dell? is not obligated to provide service or support you purchase through a third party and not Dell?.

I've read on the Dell forums that people recently have succesfully transferred warranties from one party to the next. How they did it was they had the order # from the original buyer. This is what the CSR asked for and the transfer was completed.
