this really isnt a hot deal.

If you don't like the deal, don't comment on it unless you can actually post a better deal of the same item

$250 for a perfectly capable internet/youtube/office box with a home prem license isn't a good deal? Are you high?

Drop a 6770 or something in there and you have a perfectly good gaming rig for your teenager or WoW playing buddy for under $400. Good find, OP

this really isnt a hot deal.

Can you really do better? If you were to build something similar you'd be paying a lot more.

A quick calculation:

AMD Athlon II X2 260: $65
Biostar A780L3L (includes Radeon HD 3000 IGP): $50
DVD Writer: $20
500GB Hard Drive: $40
4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz: $25
Cheap PSU: $25
Micro-ATX/ATX Case: $30
Windows 7 Home Premiun 64-bit OEM: $100
Keyboard and mouse: $30
Total: $385; almost 55% higher.

This is great for a home office, or people that only need web browsing, HD video, and some multi-tasking.

I thought of this as an upgrade for my sisters PC which is 10+ years old but do not want integrated graphics for her. No Dell option to upgrade the video so is it even possible to to put in an after market video card in this rig?

Yeah, it will have a PCI-E slot. The PSU won't have a dedicated pci-e power connector cord though, so you'd have to stick with a card that doesn't need one or piny up an extra $30-40 to get a different PSU that does.

Although if your sisters computer is really 10 years old, I assure you the integrated graphics on this are already considerably faster than the best GPU setup 2001 had to offer

There's such things as Molex to 6-pin. I'm running a 9600GT in my Dimension E521 just fine with no 6-pin off the PSU.

Edit: The coupon doesn't seem to be working with the computer linked. It's for DDDNCG1, FDDNJS29, FDDNET21, and FXDNMT1.

Wow, that's a pretty hot deal. I tried to find my thread in GH earlier tonight for a different post, but I built some machines with E5200 (overclock from 2.5 to 3.0), 4GB DDR3-1333, 500GB WD Blue HD, 24X SATA DL DVD burner (Sony/NEC), slimline case/PSU, onboard X4500 graphics (Biostar G41 mobo with DDR3 slots).

My total cost was $208, and I could get it under $200 if I swap the RAM out. (Originally used half of a Gskill Ripjaws 8GB kit that I got for $60, but I got some cheaper Gskill value RAM kits for $35 for 8GB.)

Add a Win7 license (from a $150 Family Pack), and you end up with a decent Win7 64-bit dual-core PC for $258.

Pretty close to this deal.

These don't have any molex connectors anymore, not the 3 I've bought in the last 2 years at least. Everything is SATA, and it won't have an extra SATA either most likely. You could probably get a SATA splitter then a molex adapter then a PCI-e adapter but it'd probably be a better idea to just buy a new decent one with the connectors you'd need

:hmm::awe:

$300 for a computer with a Core i5 2400. Think about it...

Simply amazing, if you ask me. This would be great for encoding, video editing, or content creation and costs almost nothing.

You get comprehensive warranties with a Home Brew PC. You get 1 year or MORE on most parts. You just need to know what breaks and RMA it. Usually you can fix it faster than a mfgr will.

Most "DELL" pc's give you only a year and some PC makers, even less.

Depends on which Dell you get. The Dell Optiplex 380 I purchased in March had 3 year next business day onsite parts and labor. If anything breaks, someone will be at my house tomorrow to fix and swap out the parts. For 3 years! Try getting that with your homebrew manufacturer warranty. You'll be lucky to get a replacement part in a week. Oh did I mention it also came with Windows 7 Professional 64bit? All for less than $350. I priced out the parts and software and there was no way I could build for that price. Super warranty is just gravy. Don't get me wrong. Customizing each part and building your own has its joy but you'll rarely save money over end of the quarter Dell sales. Dell warranty is million times better and easier than your typical PC parts manufacturer RMA.

I have never seen a 3 year on-site warranty built into a computer that cost $350.

I have. I bought the Optiplex 380 in March form the outlet I think. Has 3 year warranty. And tinkering with it does not break warranty. Just swapped the mobo in it.
