Dell NEC 1860NX 18" LCD $396 + Tax AC

Be careful about the brightness on the 1860NX. It's 50 cd/m2 less than the 15" ones that were on sale for about $200 last month. I might have jumped on it if this wasn't the case. THe only review I found on Google said that it was still decent but just not bright.

Have your tried ClearType ??? You should enable it. For more information go to microsoft website and search for ClearType.

Actually the 1800FP has serious problems WITH ClearType, it's actually documented on DELL.com as some one from this forums has mentioned.

I've seen quite a few posts exactly like this, but nobody gives any specific information about this. What is the problem exactly? What I'm aware of is that the Dell 1800FP (LG) LCD uses BGR instead of RGB. There is a tweak for this at Microsoft, but the cleartype setting for the BGR (which Microsoft considers rare) is only supported when you have SP1 installed on Windows XP.

Now.. I did recently install the SP1 specifically for this and cleartype is better, but I still can't find a perfect setting for it. This is definitely more useful than using the cleartype for the RGB for this monitor.

do a search for dell coupons on google....the 15% off monitors deal expires today (i.e. today is the last day)

also i received another 10% off for being a Dell email customer....that deal expires 6/13 (friday) but in order to receive the 15% + 10% we gotta act today

I jumped on this deal. My only concern is the brightness of the monitor... but I'm always in a dark room anyway, so I figure it won't even be an issue. It is suppose to ship on the 18th, so, unless an 1800fp deal comes before then, I should have it in less than two weeks.

for people that needs the 15% off coupons if you check large billfold they have a coupon thread there where people are selling coupons. I realize some of you are against this but I had to buy a 15% off coupon for 5 bucks yesterday so i could get a nice discount on 2 Nec 1760VM plus warentee on both for 3 years. So it was definatly worth the 5 bucks i paid to get 150+ dollars off of my total purchase.

You might want to consider that.


Also It seems each person notices ghosting differently so you really can't rely on the opinions of others I played unreal torney 2003 on a monitor with 30ms refresh and I noticed it my friend did not. I saw a 16ms and I can't notice it. So the best advice based on ghosting id say is if your the primary user go have a look at the monitors at staples or best buy and move some windows around really fast see if you notice anything.

I have the latest Dell catalog...where are the coupons??? Is this what u mean when u say "mag" ?

i have the 15% off monitors, and 10% off dell sb email member....but i guess this other 20% discount wouldn't be stackable?

I think I would get the 1860NX if I had a 15% off coupon, but currently am leaning towards getting the 17" Hitachi for $429 from MonitorsDirect. This Hitachi has 16ms response time.

I just got one of these yesterday ($454 delivered from Dell) and it's a beauty! Looks good from all angles and no @hitty built-in speakers! It matches the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's to the tee...

I can't vouch for games and neither can my wife (it's for her system) but DVD's, TV broadcasts (ATI AIW Radeon), and text looks FANTASTIC! I ran through all of the tests using MonitorsDirect Toolkit[/L], no ghosting or dead pixels (again, not a gamer...)

I don't necessarily agree/believe in the specs for contrast ratio or brightness; the one that we received is EXTREMELY BRIGHT!!! The only thing I had to do was adjust my AIW's resolution to 1280x1024. It's a definite keeper!!!

I'm holding off on this. It only has 160 degree viewing angles (not bad, but there are better out there) and the contrast ratio could be a little better.
