Well, I just got my 2005FP in today. I think I only have a few dead pixels and the backlighting isn't too bad, but everything seems kinda blurry. Mostly text. I've turned on CLeartype. How much of a difference does using DVI on this monitor? I have a NVidia Quadro 700GXL and I've never tried to use the DVI until now, and I can't seem to get a signal out of it. I unplug the analog cable and plug in the DVI (to my video card) and try to switch the monitor to input 2, but nothing ever happens. Maybe the DVI is bad on the card.

I don't know. This thing is bright, for sure. I turned down the brightness to 50. I have a 2001FP that should be here tomorrow. I hope it's a little better. Maybe I was expecting too much from my first LCD, but I'm not too impressed so far. I played Painkiller in 1680x1050 and it was ok. Nothing special. I was kinda expecting to be blown away or something.

I haven't tried VGA on my 2005fpw, however I have dual monitors and moved my main Samsung 710T to VGA and i noticed a very big difference stepping down to VGA... colors were more washed out and it was not as crisp as it was with DVI. I would assume the same scenario applies to the 2005fpw.

ARe you kidding me?

6800 GT @ Ultra speeds eats Half Life 2 and Doom 3 alive @ 1600x1200 2-4x AA and 2-8x AF..

The artical shows the ultra struggling in doom 3 and unreal 2004 but your right about halflfie 2, it does OK but not perfect.. dropping under 60 during one bench.

While a gt at ultra speeds would be playable it would not stay above 60 when the aa and af is on.....unless these benches are far more taxing then real world game play?

For most games, I play at 1680x1050, no AA or AF on my BFG6800 (overclocked and all pipes enabled) and the frame rates are silky smooth on doom3, farcry, cs source, and most of half life 2. With NFSU2, I can play with everything maxed out and the game is still smooth. I don't think you need an SLI setup to use this screen.

Just turn off AA and you will be fine. AA isn't earth shattering at 1680x1050 or 1600X1200 anyways.

That screen looks nice but my intuition says it will be EXPENSIVE when it first comes out. Probably $1000 and up because it's a PVA screen. For comparison, the Samsung 193P, a 19" PVA screen costs $729 at Newegg.

I agree all you need is af at those resolutions, and what the hell the 193p was going for $650 at the beginning of the year.... Samsung likes to empty our wallets....

Analog looks like garbage to me. Nothing to do with the monitor, either. I mostly notice it in text, but the DVI is much much more crisp overall (tested Analog and DVI on both a Radeon 9600 and an nvidia 6800).

I have my brightness set to zero here. lol.

Seriously though, if you have any way to try with DVI, do it. It is just a -lot- better to me, and it is even more important at high resolutions such as 1680x1050 or 1600x1200.

What is Sadhu smokin? He did it again folks! Sorry for hitting reply after intending to quote on Amheck's questions.

Anyway, Amheck, did you say that you had to turn down the brightness to 50%? I believe that default setting is 50%. Hmm. Did it look like it was packed anew, or did it look like a repack job? Compare the packing of the 2001FP when it comes today. Of course they come from different places. One is assembled in Mexico (2005) and the other in China (2001FP). My brightness on the 2005 was turned down into the 30s. It's too bright, I think otherwise, except in the day time for some. (but not for me).

Did you try rebooting after switching your video modes? Switch your dual monitor setup to just one monitor setup up and first try hooking up just one monitor at a time. If you monitor supports DVI dual head there could be an issue with the way the dual head is setup on your video card. Test first to see you can just do one monitor at a time, and go from there.

Blurry? No. The 2005FP should not be blurry, especially with text ... in native mode. I know you to be a knowledgeable guy who is astute, and so we assume you were in native mode. I don't know about the QAUDRO 700 GXL. Perhaps someone out there has a 700GXL that can comment.

THanks for the info. Yeah, I've been really bummin' about my first LCD experience. It looks as if I'm going to have to buy a new video card asap afterall.

Does it sound like I'm doing everything right on the video card end? I have both analog and digital cables in the monitor right now. And the VGA is hooked up to my video card. I read to not have them hooked up at the same time, so what I do is I unplug the analog from my video card, plug in the DVI cable, and then press the input select button on the monitor to switch to the DVI. That should be all I need to do right?

Can anyone recommend a cheap DVI video card? I was really hoping to wait at least until next year (Jan-Feb) to buy a new card so maybe the 6600GT AGP prices would setle down a little and I also wanted to wait and see about the new x800 cards coming out.

Man, I really hope my experinece is the same and the DVI looks a lot better. On a kind of unrelated note, my 2001FP is on the truck for delivery today. So I'll be able to have them side by side to compare.

Amheck, remind us what applications you do and what per centage? I suppose if you do games, you do games, and that's going to be the consideration. I ask the question because there is a great and inexpensive dual head card that's NOT really intended for game use that's really inexpensive and made for dualhead use (Matrox P650 at $169).

Sadhu, heheh

Yeah, the brightness was definitely at 100%. I checked again. The contrast was the one at 50% from the factory. And yeah, everything looked pretty nicely packed.

I haven't tried rebooting after switching cables, but I am using only 1 monitor right now, the 2005. I have my big flat 21" IBM CRT on the floor. And yep, I have Cleartype ON and the res set to 1680x1050. I did enable large fonts, just cause everything was a bit small. But that's not a huge deal to leave it like that.

Also, I'm not really looking for a dual monitor setup, at least right now. I can only afford to keep 1 of these monitors for the time being. Yeah, I play games occassionally, but this computer is primarily my MS Office and surfing computer.

Well, I'd get a cheap Radeon 9200 or 9600SE if you want to check out DVI. It really is much better than VGA.

Now, those cards would be ok for 2D, but not 3D of course. If you were doing any 3D on the 2005, you'd need an nvidia 6800 or something similar (or better) on the ATI card to drive it with some decent speed.

I didnt see it posted above.

That's with automatic 20% off. If you use 25% off Dellf coupon, it overrides that. The base price is still $799.

No, if you apply the 25% off, it takes it off the original price....so about 600. find a 45$ off stackable and get it for around 555 like I did(add taxes and free shipping)

driver,

What are your system specs? I'm curious to see how different they are compared to mine. My system isn't capable of any of what you mentioned. The ONLY game that you could almost say runs "silky smooth" at 1680 x 1050 on this LCD is CS:S. That's it! Oh, I do run everything with AA and AF enabled, come to think of it...

Thanks in advance!

I finally got a 25% off coupon from the dellf game, but it isn't working correctly. When I apply it, it keeps the 20% off, rather than overriding it with the 25% off.

Anyone have this problem?

My system is:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ on an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe Mobo
1 GB of Kingston Value Ram
BFG6800OC with all pipes enabled and overclocked to 400/800
A couple of 200 GB 7200 RPM drives
SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS

It definitely helps to set AA and AF to minimal settings. Personally, I don't think AA is necessary at this resolution as the jaggies are not that noticeable to me.

I definitely see what most people are talking about in regard to the brightness level giving you a headache, I just turned down my brightness to 0%. Oh, and I should have my replacement 2005fpw by tomorrow or friday!

No one answered my earlier question, is there a setting in nvidia drivers to stretch or "fit" 4:3 video to fit the screen?
