For reference, I get 112 fps on the Source Stress Test (at 1600x1200, everything on high, reflect all, no AA, bilinear filtering) and 65 fps on the doom3 timedemo (1600x1200, everything on high, no AA or AF).

No one answered my earlier question, is there a setting in nvidia drivers to stretch or "fit" 4:3 video to fit the screen?

Hello All,

New to the forums and am getting this display so was reading through all the excellent info on this thread.

I had a question for those who already own one, can you use both the VGA and DVI connectors at the same time? I have several PCs that I need to use at the same time (run tools on linux, do write ups in windows, etc) and this would be handy if I could have say my Fedora Core machine on the VGA and my regular PC on my DVI so I can switch between the two as I need to?

ScottFern: There is an option if you go to display settings -> advanced and the Nvidia section there is a section labeled Flatpanel, you will find the options you need there.

I have a laptop that uses an Nvidia card and is a 17" widescreen, same resolution as this Dell and thats how I turned it on, but I'm too lazy to unpack it right now to tell you the exact menu names forgive me.

I got it to work after spending an hour on the phone with indian tech support(GOD!). Heres part of the conversation. Dell: Who Built your computer? Me: I builit it myself. Dell: Ok, go ahead and contach that company and ask them about your video card. Me: I said I built it. Dell: Yes, you must contact them. Well, I hope every company that supports overseas calls dies soon. Anyways, after that, I decided to check the cable, low and behold one bent pin. I bent it back and it worked. Yes, I should have checked right away, but tech support shouldnt be such a problem. ALl things aside, this is an amazing monitor for the price.

Glad you fixed the problem. Your conversation with India tech support was hilarious. Dell Business usually has support calls routed to US. It's the Home division that gets screwed and gets most of their calls routed to India.

Well, I just bought one. It shipped yesterday. I will let you know how it is.

I used the 25% off dellf coupon so it was $599 (without shipping and tax)

Dthind,

I really hate to rain on your parade, but if you get it and it has absolutely no dead pixels or the back-light issue (bleeding edges) that this LCD is plagued with, you can consider yourself a very, very lucky man and you should play the next lotto!

Mine had around 6 dead pixels and the backlight reflection was bleeding form every corner for about 4 inches inward. I called and tech support was unusually polite and helpful. I got a new one 2 days later. This one was almost perfect, though.

Anyways, I wish you luck!

yup, i just hooked my monitor up about 2 hours ago. Its pretty nice. Although the picture with my 1901fp seems to be a clearer pciture for some reason. And why cant i get the contrast to work on the menu? But this thing was bright as anything man. My brightness is down in the 20's. No dead pixels or back light issues so im happy.

There's really no reason that Indian tech support has to be as bad as it is. Most Indians speak English better than people in the U.S.A. or England. There are many many dialects spoken in India, and so English is univerally spoken as the one common denominator. The level at which most Indians speak English is remarkable (remarkably good). However, for some strange reason, Dell and other companies have not done well finding Indians who either speak or listen well. Those of you who have spoken with Dell's Indian support or Customer Care know this all too well. Everyone should complain, it's horrible.

They aren't the only vendor going to crummy support centers. So is Linksys. There, they look for any excuse to ditch the phone call, often telling you stuff that's not true about older hardware, or software (like Windows 98). It's a pitty, but support is often a losing proposition for everyone. Customer Care shouldn't be.

Make sure you let Dell know how bad the support is. It may be funny to hear the story, but it's often not funny when you happen to be the one trying to "get through" to someone who doesn't listen.

I hope it doesnt have problems. I have Dell US 1800fp now and it has been great. If it does, RMA away.

Yes, this is what I was saying about the brightness. I think they have OVERDONE it on that score. They are fixated on brightness, maybe because many users think it means it's BETTER than the 2001FP because it's got greater contrast ratio and more nits. Nuts!

Anyway, the contrast adjustment only works in analog mode, not in dvi. You'll find a note about that in your user manual on the CD that comes with your monitor.

So, I have one and It has no dead pixels, but it does have some black light problems. I'm thinking about an RMA, but it seems to be getting better so i'm gonna hold off for a bit.

One question though, how do I adjust the brightness?

Hey guys. I am new to the board but I have been following this thread closely the past week. I have a new 2005FWP and I have an annoying issue with Windiows Media Player 10. When I play any widescreen DVD in WMP10, I get black bars on the side and on top of the movie. I can understand the bars up top because of the aspect ratio. But why am I getting 2" bars on each side?

When I play the movie in one of the free players such as InterActual, it does not show the bars on the side. The bars are still on top, which is normal.

Anyone know how I can WMP10 to eliminate those sidebars? I am playing the movie in Full Screen.

So, anyway... Now that I'm over the initial irritation I decided to check out the 1905FP (I was considering just keeping this one and getting a refund for the difference), and I was quite underwhelmed with its gaming ability. The 2D desktop looked fantastic, no dead pixels, and no backlighting to speak of (2D really was pretty), but HL2 was all ghosts and smears. I realize that this is a 20ms panel and the 2005FPW is 12ms. Anyone have both of these that can compare these panels for gaming? I would really be disappointed if my 2005FPW is anyhting at all like the 1905FP, which was IMO not at all acceptable for gaming.

Hey guys... finally got my 2005fpw in yesterday and yes youre all right... this thing is BRIGHT! When i turned it on... it was also set at 100 for brightness. After setting it down to zero, i was alright. Since I dont have my vid card yet, I turned down my contrast to 40 and everything looks pretty decent.

Dell quality... Mine is free of dead pixels and there was some back light troubles going on in a couple spots but I had read earlier that somebody just pressed all over the monitor to even out the surface of the screen... who knew? this actually works. seems like the screen is a thin piece of plastic that MUST sit completely FLAT with respect to the plane its supposed to be sitting on. that means most of the backlight issues are probably caused by a slight warp in this screen and if you just nudge that warp around so that its dips or peaks are just not so darn deep, then the backlighting will just even out. but hey.. try this at your own risk... i wont be held accountable for people putting their fingers through their brand new monitors. Take it easy guys.

yea you can even trurn down the brightness in you video card settings as well, but when you turn it down to 0 it should be low enough.

Just received my 2005 and it appears that it has blacklight problems. I'm having a really hard time determining this though. Maybe you folks could help me out.

1. When viewing the 2005 with a solid black background should I see any blacklight bleeding? or should it be solid black like a CRT?

I've never seen any other LCD so I don't have anything to gauge it one.

TIA

Well, I've -never- seen an LCD that in a dark room w/a dark background, that you couldn't see some backlights. It just depends -how- much bleeding there is.

On the 2005fpw that I exchanged, I could see 4 of them, but I had one off-center one in the top right that was just much brighter than the other 3. If it had been a bit less bright like the others I'd have had no issues with it at all. Heck, in a dark room w/a dark screen I can even see the backlights on my laptop. hehe.

My 2005FWP still seems too bright when I get it all the way down to 0. I actually had to lower the brightness thru my ATI Control Panel (9800 Pro). You can also adjust the contrast there as well, which I did a bit. The Contrast option is grayed out on the monitor if you use DVI like I am.

BTW.. anyone have any reply to my post on the previous page regarding Windows Media Player and this monitor?

Wow, I don't know, I will have to wait until I'm home again to try... I do know that vlc, media player classic, and the nvidia dvd decoder all run fine for me anyway, but you seem to imply the same.
