Whoops. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to quote without reply.
My initial worry was that everything would be too small, but I believe I have already adjusted to the size of everything, even with my 56 year old eyeballs. And with reading glasses on (even the drugstore bought variety) everything is more than adequate with the 1600x1200 or the 1680x1050. My first impressions are that the so called "widescreen" or as it may have been aptly regarded by "Accord99," the "shortscreen" model. But that said, my first impressions are that even for someone whose eyes have fairly rapidly adjusted to the higher resolution, the 1600x1050 is easier to read, especially with or without glasses on. It appears noticably brighter. How much brighter? Well, when setting them both to 100% brightness, I think anyone who isn't completely blind would say that the 1600x1050 is remarkably "brighter." Whites especially are considerably whiter, and you have to turn the 2005FPW down below 70% for them to even begin to get close. It's still noticably brighter even at 70% and still easier to read at that level. I haven't really decided about the colors yet. I know there was some worry that colors would looked washed out, and maybe they do a little washed out by comparrsion to the 2001, at least that's my initial impression using some color photography taken with my Nikon Digital when dupicating image and dragging the copy to the other monitor. But then, I don't know, actually what dual monitor mode does to the accuracy of the colors in the 2nd monitor. And for that matter, I don't even know if running in dual monitor mode is a fair test at all (which might even invalidate my initial impressions about the "brightness." Perhaps someone in the forum can offer up some thoughts on this. I can't. I'm too much of newbie to dual monitor mode.
Anyway, I am somewhat surprised at the livability of the size of everything in 1600 res mode. It didn't look livable on my CRT at all. My first impressions are quite favorable, more so than I expected. It's certainly worth taking a look for yourself, and not relying on others to venture forth an opinion.
I should mention that I have the Dell 19" Ultra Sharp also on the table, and while I am still comparing them, the intial impressions are that the 19" 2005, while quite excellent, is not quite as satisfactory or as necessary to hang on to, if you can swing a purchase of either the 2001FP or the 2005FPW.
Note that last week, the 19" Dell was offering the 2005 for only $499. I don't think it is today. I think it's gone back up to the higher price once again. If that's the situation, then you should most definitely consider the 20" (+) variety. I never thought I'd say this, but that's the way I'm inclined to think about it now. I suppose there are many in the forum who aren't surprised, but I sure am.
