I ordered two 2005fpw's yesterday and will compare them with my 2001fp when I get them. One already shipped last night =)

Question: Does 2001FP has no backlight issuse or the backlight problem is only on the 2005FPW model?

Now I'm wondering if Dell is trying to unload all these 1st gen 2005FPW w/ known issues as quick as they can before the problem is fixed. Anyone know how long it takes to ship a monitor usually from Dell? Cause I ordered my 2005 on Monday and it's here already (standard shipping)! Usually when I order stuff from Dell it takes like 2-3 weeks.

Or, maybe they are just being nice and getting everyone their products before X-mas

My guess would be they have plenty of them due to the demand and I'm sure many people complained about the 2-3 week wait to get a 2001fp, but you could be right =)

Dell ships very fast if they have the item in stock. I ordered a harddrive from them Monday morning and it arrived Wednesday via ground. Not even Newegg is that fast. Dell also had the cheapest price on this harddrive out of all the stores I shop at: Newegg, ZZF, Mwave, Monarch, etc.

Dell probably stockpiled 2005FPW for its introduction and holiday season just like they did with 2001FP release late last year. 2001FP was introduced late Oct of 2003 and I ordered on early Dec 2003. My 2001FP is Oct 2003 build.

Yes, I agree. I ordered the FPw on the first or 2nd day it was available ... way back before all this backlighting issue was known. I had mine the very next day. I ordered a 1905FP. It was here the next day. I ordered a 2001FP, and it that was here the next day. Karate, as Mr. Miyagi knows, needs to be practed with steady mind, and therefore, without fear. Of course, a little sketicism is always a healthy thing (grin).

But in this case ... I don't the quick ship has anything to do with a sinister plot to unload the items fast. More likely has to do with the fact that they HAVE them.

OK, I just got my 2nd 2005fpw after the first one (reva00 Nov) had several bad pixels (8). The new one (also reva00 but Dec2005) had almost no bad pixels, but there is a small backlighting issue. I noticed that the new monitor seems less bright and the brightness control lowers much more than the Nov revision.

Question: Does anyone's 'auto adjust' button work in DVI mode? This did not work on either monitor, so I'm curious what is going on.

Overall, I'm very happy with the replacement 2005fpw. The PIP works great to watch TV and EQ II and Far Cry look amazing. Happy Holidays to everyone.

I ordered mine on Tuesday (12/21) and it's still in "Pre-production" with a delivery estimate of 12/31 to 1/4. Maybe they're outta stock or awaiting a revision. I've given Dell *A LOT* of business over the years and they usually ship stuff out to me the next day.

Fingers crossed in the hopes I get a good one...

I doubt it because people are continuing to receive monitors that were built in December, and they would have transitioned to a newer revision by now. I do think they have improved their manufacturing process though, we haven't seen to many issues of problems with backlighting lately compared to how many people were initially reporting. I am starting to wonder though if Dell made some kind of agreement with LG where LG would send all of their cherrypicked panels with no bad pixels to apple and give the rest at a significantly lowered price to dell.

I ordered one of the first 2005FPw monitors. Mine had extremely minor backlight ... almost so that you could say none, really.

Also, this same early 2005FP had NO dead pixels, at least I can't find any ... no matter what color background I use, black, blue, red, green, or WHITE. I believe some other Forum members also received 2005FPWs with zero dead pixels, which might put to rest the notion that Dell's just getting the dregs from the panel manufacturer. You can argue all day ... until the cows come home as to why Apple's LCD sells for 1295 and Dells for $795 or even $550. I'll just say this. I'll just say this. My daughter's expensive Powerbook has quite a number dead pixels, and so I don't see them as the "premuim quality vendor," just an expensive one.

Its an auto adjust button that does not work that way according to a Dell Rep I spoke to, when you hit Auto Adjust, it does nothing, as the picture is automatically adjusted "at all times" anyways.... Seems silly to me...

When I changed resolutions I was left with about half an inch of unused screen space on the right of the 2005. Using the auto-adjust function, the monitor readjusted to give the proper positioning/size. So I guess it does have a function, maybe only in cases like that though.

Not sure why it's taking your order that long to ship, I ordered two yesterday and my first shipped yesterday and the second shipped today.

The picture adjustments on the monitor are only there to get an analog signal tweaked (such as getting the phase and pixel clock properly set) since with an analog connection and a flat panel you are making not one, but two conversions between analog and digital. With DVI you should get a pixel-perfect reproduction of the image your graphics card is drawing, so the adjustments are theoretically not needed and so are disabled. On both of my PCs I didn't have any trouble with the image not quite fitting right on the display using DVI, but both are using ATi cards with the "scale image to fit panel" option disabled.

If you do need to make any color, brightness or other image tweaks you should go into your graphics card control panel and make changes there. It is kind of nice in a way, because it removes one set of variables which makes it easier to get the monitor looking they way I want it.

I have never been called back by a dell rep after they said they would. Just call them back. On a good note they've always shipped me back rma's overnight.

Just got my first 2005fpw. It's rev00 from nov 04. Will hook it up in a minute to check the backlight/pixels.

I did notice these are assembled in mexico and the 2001fp in china, maybe the qc wasn't up to par at the start which is why so many bad ones were released.

Edit - Ugh I just noticed after pulling the panel out of the box it has a 2 1/2 - 3 inch scratch in the lower middle of it =(

Edit 2 - No backlight problems but 3 dead pixels, one in the middle of the screen which just sticks out. Other two are in the corners and I don't notice them unless I look for them. ( mid left other bottom right)

Hopefully they start to nail it down a bit better and get some good panels out the door..

The scratch is just unacceptable.

Ordered mine today. 564 shipped.
