i think hacky, as well as several others, have the right idea. don't bother with replacing it with another monitor from the same batch - my replacement had the same exact lighting problems in the same places. those who say that they don't have lighting problems either are getting anomalies, or they just don't see it. i think if we all get together and collectively yell at dell for a while, mb they'll send us replacements. i heard someone else on ardforums say something about them (dell) getting around to it.

Collective yelling is appropraite but not necessary (yet).
I'm still puzzled why so many of you are sooooo anxious about getting 2-3 replacement monitors ASAP. What's the rush? The monitor works very well right? Only cosmetic problems exist right?
However, I'm not suggesting you keep it....just keep it a little longer. Wait for the new improved revisions (assuming there will be some), and then ask for a new one. Your only making yourself mad by stressing out about it now.
[SORRY: I don't know how all this text got bolded ]

I believe the 21 day return thing is "I got this....I don't like it...I want all my money back." After 21 days you cant get your money back, but you can still exchange the monitor for a working one. From what it sounded like when I talked to a dude at Dell on the phone is that at any time the monitor goes bad during the 3 years they will send you a new one. He didn't even know anything about a pixel policy....basically he was like "just tell me if its messed up in any way....We'll send you a new one."

But from what I understand, within the 21 day's they'll mail you a NEW one. After that, they have the option of giving you a REFURBISHED one for a warranty claim. YUK.
I've actually gone full circle on a DELL laptop LCD before (give them mine (nasty verticle red lines), get a refurbished one (extremely dark), give them refurbished back, get one with nasty verticle red lines (probably mine from before) )...........

I take back my previous statements I'am an LCd n00b turns out what I thought was bleeding was actually just caused by seeing the corners at an angle (the screen is so damn wide). The only real bleeding is a very small section top right.

has anyone received these "new" monitors?

Of course, I fully believe that some people have a worse problem with this bleed through than others. I also fully believe that it really bothers the heck out some people who truly do have the problem. I also believe that there is a quantity of people who don't have a serious problem and have been made to feel their monitors should be perfectly black from all angles, and who feel that have a dud, and now want and expect a non-existent perfect monitor. However, I don't see any proof that there is an acknowledged problem, and, of course, at this point, as I have been implying, I wonder, at this point, if we can ever know for certain what the real story is.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't have said anything. But now, don't you think we have reached the point were it's going to be impossible to know for sure?
As I posted a week or so back, I received my 2005FPW (DEC A00 build) and have no complaints whatsoever. I'm a very techy guy with high standards. I also have first hand experience with probably several dozen LCD displays (standalone, laptop, 4x3, 16x9, etc.) . I'm very curious as to what these so called backlighting problems loook like.
Could someone post some pictures of one of these problem childs? Hopefully a picture with the lights off and no flash will show it.
Thanks
