Dell notebook delay question.

I ordered a dell 8600 notebook on sept. 7 and they keep pushing back the ship date of my order. It was suppose to ship on sept 22, then they pushed it back to monday, sept 29, then the 30th, now the ship date reads oct 3! It's really pissing me off. I received an email about how i could cancel the notebook since the ship date got pushed back. The order status page says the notebook is at boxing stage, but the ship date is a week away!

I got a good deal on the notebook. The final price is 1400+ for a good configuration. I email them and they just dance around and tell me the ship date and nothing else. What should i do? Anyone have the same experience? Any advice would be appreciated. Should i call and try to get some free stuff from dell because of the delay? I will end up having to wait more than a month for a freakin' laptop.

You might want to cancel since ATI m 9600 will supposedly start showing up en mass next month...

I ordered with the geforce fx 5600 whatever, but with the difficulties that it has in directx9...that makes me reconsider... Are there any penalties from cancelling the order?

Hmm, as far as I know, Dell has raised prices of the 8600!!

Go to dell.com and configure a notebook like urs. See if the price has changed. If it has, you better let dell take its time and deliver (IMHO).

Minimum price right now for a base 8600 is 1499$.. that too after 200$ rebate.

Call and bitch... that is unless you aren't able to be persuasive. You may get your shipdate moved up and some free items as well. Post back with your results... let's see who is more persuasive, you or the Dell rep.

I think its the fiasco over the Hitachi/Samsung displays.

My i8600 was actually pushed up from 9-17 to 9-10.

I think its the fiasco over the Hitachi/Samsung displays.

I heard about that. People who got the Hitachi displays thought they were poor quality (low brightness, poor viewing angle, dull colors), so they checked out the specs of the panels on Hitachi's website. Turns out the panels did not meet Dell's "UltraSharp" specifications, and weren't even close.

Dell screwed up big time. It is really disturbing that two people who ordered the exact same system specifications could receive noticeably different parts. One would expect uniformity in a product line.
