I have an Inspiron 3200 also they just ignore me. You must be high on their priority list. In general, I think it's a great laptop. Some minor things, like customer support, is what I hate.

Isn't long waits with generic responses basically the same as unresponsiveness? What's the use of a response if it doesn't help? I'd rather have no response which would let me forget I even asked in the first place. And your prediction is incorrect. I have dealt with many annoying customer support representatives from different companies. Dell is one of those bad ones I have experienced. Maybe others have been luckier, but I sure haven't.

The thing with Dell support, as long as you have the latest system, they will treat you like a king. When your system get's old, then you get left in the dust, or at the end of the queue. This is my experience with Dell. Other people are luckier I guess.

I would complain if I were you. At our company we have 300+ IBM Thinkpad 600's and I've only seen 5 or so with ANY dead pixels. If I were spending 1000+ on a notebook I would insist on a screen with no dead pixels. I dont know if they are using poor quality screens, but judging from the IBM's I've seen, dead pixels are not normal!

SamWoo - That's a great idea *G*, is it possible to hook up a few wireless networked laptops together without a base station? You wouldn't have net access but you could have a little mini-ethernet-hub going on, like peer to peer networking?

Now is not the time to buy I called as well looking to score a Dell notebook deal. I was told in not so many words that in about 3 to 4 weeks there are new notebooks coming out with NVidia chips in them. I'll wait.

Guys, don't place your order over the web. Call in. I got a home system (3800 inspiron, 14.1 tft, 64mb, 600mhz celery, 5gb, 24x, etc) for $1299 and no tax. Plus the sales guy threw in a extra 32mb and the 56k modem (small buis one didn't have the modem).

Hurry up, only 2 hours left

I feel like dell pulled a bait and switch, the site has a PIII with 8xdvd,15"display and 30gigs listed for $1270.00 - $150.00=$1120.00
the guy told me it was a misprint and tried to sell me a celly 400
with a 6gig for $1218.00 . I already have a latitude but would have bought a 15" inch one if they existed for that price!
I say its a bait & switch. (forgive me for not trusting).
I could be wrong , but it made me feel weird the way the guy tried to sell me the other systems. Good luck to all who got a good deal!!!

really? you would think the p4 would have no effect on laptop prices since that chip has a long way before it goes mobile.

i'll buy that the nvidia chip will be in there, the mx was supposed to be mobile.

Where does it mention the graphics chipset will be by nvidia and 32MB/64MB? I only see the 32MB number mentioned and to my knowledge it will still be using the rage mobility 128.

I was just at the Dell Website. They are knocking out 150 even with their refurb systems. MMm.. I wonder what is a good buy? Where is the 8000? that's not out yet isn't it? Can you compare Dell with Sony? or is it like comparing Apples with Oranges?

Funny...every time someone points to an item, you hear the same old tune - don't buy it now, XX is coming out and prices will drop.

Maybe one in ten times is that warning even marginally correct, and the last thing it would be correct about is laptops. You still can't get a Pentium 233 for under $800 - there's no way anything in the sub $1500 price range is suddenly going to plummet.

I don't mean to offend anyone by ranting - I've just heard that same "advice" over and over and over...and it's never right. You can always wait for tomorrow's technology, but you rarely get it as quickly as you're told, and almost never does today's technology drop as fast as people speculate.

you wont see a mobile P4 for a LONG ASS time, if they even decide to go that route... think about it... the chip itself wont be in systems till like January and it usually takes good while to see a mobile version of any new chip... also, i think intel's roadmap shows a new version of the p3 that would be a more likely candidiate to go mobile... not to mention the size of that sucker originally... not the ideal candidate for fast adaptation to the notebook platform...

i agree with Rio Rebel: almost anything you buy today will be cheaper a month from now, but who cares, if you need something, you find the cheapest price for it TODAY and then be done with it...

Speaking of laptops, does anyone still have that emachines eslate 450 that was on clearance at officedepot for $600-700?? How well does it work?

Not in the market for laptops, just curious about it. Now that was a hot deal!

MrBond - That is EXACTLY what I want, an Ethernet port in a Laz-Y-Boy chair along with:

The six pack cooler
Magazine rack
Remote Control Console
Heated Massage Pad
Speakerphone with caller ID

and that's just the entry level model chair ...

Guys,
Nvidia's mobile chip will probably be better than Mobility 128,
but I've played Half Life on Dell inspiron 5000e with M128 chip and its quite playable at 1024x768. Even if you get GeForce 2 Mx in a mobile version, you are still kinda limited by the reaction time of LCD pixels...
