I must say... its both about time... and yet very surprising that a product like this has come to distribution.

Wireless charging is retarded. Unless they can come up with a way to actually make it efficient, or at LEAST long-distance, it's a gimmick with no advantage over plug-in charging and several disadvantages.

I don't understand the appeal.

If you have to put it on a wireless charging stand then why not just have a normal docking station or just plug it in. Seems kind of gimmicky to me and a waist of power due to all of the inefficiencies.

I hope this isnt the future. When I remove my battery from my laptop the charge will last up to month and beyond, draining very slowly. When I leave the battery in its good for two weeks at best and will be almost completly discharged by the end. After a month of being detached I have at least a 20-40% charge. I just keep the adapter plugged in for everyday use if need be. The battery does not have to be attached. I have a Sony Vaio SZ laptop.

The ability to remove the battery is key to longetivity.

Yes. It looks like this isn't wireless in the sense that the average person would use it, it's inductive like Palm's got on the Pre. You don't have to plug a wire into the device, but you do have to plug the dock in and the device still needs physical contact before it charges.

The amount Dell probably wants wouldn't be worth it to me, but I bought inductive adapters for my Wii & PS3 remotes and would buy one for my cell phone if it was available.

As others have said, inductive charging isn't really that awesome when you can just plug it in and charge faster. But if we can get truly wireless charging, that would be awesome. If I can just place a charger on the ground in the midst of several people using their laptops and have it charge all of them simultaneously via an electric field, THAT would be cool.

This is definitely very nice for people who run around a lot with their laptop. It's not revolutionary but it is a nice feature. Plus, that laptop looks very cool and has a lot of other really nice features anyway.

the question is, if you had an infintie chain of such transmitters and receivers, do you still need a power source?
