Hot or not? $80 plus $28 shipping

Dont really know much about used PC prices

When I originally checked they had 650+

Maybe useful as a server?

They bumped the price up $5, now only 242 left. Great resellerrating. But onboard 3D Rage Pro video...ugh. If there is an AGP port and jumper to disable video, it might be pretty OK. Another thing: do you get tower or desktop? Looks like a crap-shoot...

What would be the point of getting an AGP card on this system? You're not going to game with it...

Yeah, for a file or email server onboard is fine IMO

These are great for servers. They are rock solid. I had a Dell similar to this one that I kept running 24x7 at work (it was my workstation). Lot's of these older Dells are available on the surplus market. They were on a three year business lease and have been returned and normally refurbished. Also great for the kids or grandparents/parents.

You're right, I'm not. But the person I'm trying to build a machine for on the cheap would like to do some gaming (believe it not, lots of older games are still lots of fun). And it's not just an ATI chipset, it's a Rage Pro...

Older games don't need anything more than a Rage Pro. The Rage Pro is a pretty good match for a PII 350.

Those old Dells totally rock and are usually very sweet to work on with screwless covers and swing out psu's.I had a pile of optiplex's older than these P 166 upgraded to P 200 mmx and they are still running strong. These would be great for servers or light word processing and surfing the web or a young child's system.

Ahh, I remember when we got one of these new in our office. Man did we think that thing was fast...it could load Total Annihilation way faster than my 200Mhz 64MB P1 machine

those were the days

haha, im currently working on a pc renewal project for one of the big 3 auto makers, and were removing these gx1's and replacing them with gx260's...unless u need a low end dedicated server of some sort, i see absolutely no reason to buy these machines, their complete garbage.

Hah! Ya.

I remember playing Total Annihilation (Best RTS Ever) on a P2 400 w/ 64mb RAM and I remember being blown away (Since at the time I played TA on a P1-166 w/ 48mb EDO RAM)

I have to disagree. I've bought, refurbished and resold many of these Dells and have nothing but good luck. They are easy to work on, rock solid from a reliability stand point, and should work great for a server, or a basic internet computer. And the price isn't bad at all...

These are definitely not junk. The build quality is much higher than the Lindows box @ WM. NT or 98 will do very nicely on one of these. The slim desktop form factor is a nice little size. Otherwise I'd take a tower over the gigantic regular desktop. If you want to make a little server check out ClarkConnect or e-smith.

With a new HD this box will feel like a new machine to your average user. If you do want to a CPU upgrade use this adaptor and a cheap Tualatin.

I have to comment that these dell optiplex GX1s and Gxa are great machines for its purposes. I use them as test servers and as a spare xp workstation. They work great. nothing is better for the price. also the slim desktop models are a great space spaver. mine are piii 450s.

xp and windows 2000 include all the drivers needed for these machines so they are quick to blow away and reload. only bad thing is they do not have onboard ata100 support.

I own three of these, one P2-350 and two P2-400's. Yes, they are very solid machines. I have Win2k on them and they are running SETI 24/7. I last booted them up about 5 weeks ago and they are as happy as can be.
