How does this look? The upgrades I chose were 3.2 D processor, 20" WS LCD, X-Fi sound card, and 4 yr warranty. The total discount came out to be $598, that's good right?

Also, is the 4 yr warranty worth it? I understand that there can be mishaps, but how good is this "limited" dell warranty?

There's no way I'd be using my same PC configuration three or four years from now.

as most would recommend... build your own. but if you ca not make your own, then Dell is an option... and so is Monarch computers.
In any case, if you are planning on using this computer for the next 3- 4 yrs or so... you might get tight on the hard drive front. In addition, do get a DVD-writer instead of CD writer.... now a days with prices of blank DVDs being so close to that of CDs, it would be good to have that option.

I don't recommend that any more. From reading how people destroy expensive hardware as a result of basic mistakes, I default to Dell.
That is unless they demonstrate that they have a handle on basic PC building skills.

I have been following Dell deals for a while an anything above $ 800 is usually unrealistic.

With the right coupons I would say when a good deal does come up you should be able to get this easily for around $800 and yes including the 20 in widescreen LCD.

Hold off for a bit. Am sure dells gonna have some smokin deals to get all the pre conroe dual cores outta the door. keep a watch on fatwallet and u should get one within a week.

prev E510 deals

and

and the best for last

Blain: Yes, I understand that i may not be using this PC config for 4 yrs, but it would be nice to ensure that it is still around as my secondary system for that long. That is why I want the warranty. Also the EPP discount makes the warranty alot cheaper.

I am not quite comfortable doing a complete build myself, mainly installing the motherboard. I'd rather pay a little extra to have it professionally done and spare myself the stress of making sure I do everything right.

someet: As far as HD space, I plan on purchasing an big external HS for my main storage, seems like a safer/more convenient option. I already have an external DVD burner so I dont need one on the comp.

aniruddha23: I will be holding out for ~800 per your advice. Man, a 24" LCD would be so worth the wait, but mainly just a solid deal is what I'll be looking for.

all: Thanks you very much... just gettin a lil antsy, hehe.

Not considering price, but considering performance, I'd think it'd be best to upgrade to the slowest Core 2 Duo (if retail prices hold true, it should be no more than a $100 upgrade, even an upgrade at all), if Dell offers that as an option. Also, 80GB as your only hard drive seems a bit small, but I don't really know what you do with this computer.

All I can say is, Dell LCDs rock.
